Worth preparing alongside

We cannot line Assam CEE up against other exams yet

This does not mean Assam CEE shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

FAQs
Does Assam still run its own engineering entrance test?

Yes. ASTU's notification of 27 February 2026 announces the Combined Entrance Examination (CEE)-2026 for admission to Engineering Colleges of Assam, and the 2026 cycle ran to completion with the examination on 14 June 2026 and the result on 26 June 2026. B.Tech admission in Assam's colleges runs on the CEE rank.

What is the paper like?

One paper of three hours with 120 multiple choice questions in three subject-wise sections — Mathematics 40, Physics 40 and Chemistry 40. Four marks for a correct answer, one mark deducted for a wrong one. Marking more than one option counts as wrong. Answers are shaded on an OMR sheet with a black ball point pen.

Which syllabus is it set on?

The syllabus of the Assam State School Education Board, Division-II (Higher Secondary Division). The brochure says this twice, in clause 2 and again in clause 5.

Which language is the paper in?

The question paper contains questions in both English and Assamese.

Do I have to be from Assam?

Yes for the general route — the applicant must be an Indian citizen and a Permanent Resident of Assam with a valid PRC issued by the competent authority. The one exception is the Central Government Employee quota, for children of Central Government and Central PSU employees posted in Assam for less than twenty years, who submit proof of permanent residency from their own state.

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age is 17 years as on 31st December 2026. There is no upper age limit.

What marks do I need in class 12?

A minimum of 45% in the qualifying examination in the subjects taken together, 40% for reserved-category candidates, per the AICTE Approval Process Handbook 2024-2027. A 3-year Engineering & Technology diploma under the State Council for Technical Education, Assam with the same percentages, or a B.Sc. with the same percentages plus HSC with Mathematics, are the alternative routes. The HSC must be passed in a single sitting without grace marks.

Can I get my answer sheet re-checked?

No. Because the OMR sheets are computer-evaluated there is no provision for manual re-checking or re-evaluation. You may instead apply for a photocopy of your own OMR sheet on payment of Rs 300 within the announced window — for CEE-2026 the last date was 10th July 2026.

Who runs the counselling?

Not ASTU. Counselling is conducted by the State Council for Technical Education Assam, Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Assam, which notifies the Counselling Guidelines separately. Watch https://dte.assam.gov.in for that.

How is a tie in marks broken?

Highest marks in Mathematics, then Physics, then Chemistry, then date of birth, then alphabetical order of name, applied in that sequence.

Final eligibility and dates are always subject to the latest official notification. Content marked “Pending verification” is not presented as verified advice.
