FAQsPending verification
Is Bihar Police SI and Constable one examination?
No. They are two separate recruitments run by two different bodies. The Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC) at csbc.bihar.gov.in advertises and conducts Constable recruitment for Bihar Police and the Bihar Special Armed Police. The Bihar Police Subordinate Service Commission (BPSSC) at bpssc.bihar.gov.in advertises and conducts Police Sub-Inspector recruitment for the Home Department (Police Branch). Different advertisements, different qualifications, different examinations.
What qualification do I need?
For Constable, Intermediate (10+2), or the Maulvi certificate of the Bihar Madrasa Board, or Shastri (with English) or Acharya (without English) of the Bihar Sanskrit Board, or another equivalent recognised by the State Government. For Sub-Inspector, a graduation degree from a recognised university or an equivalent examination recognised by the State Government, held by the cut-off date in the advertisement.
What are the age limits?
Constable under Advertisement No. 01/2025: unreserved 18 to 25; BC and EBC men 18 to 27; BC and EBC women 18 to 28; SC, ST and transgender candidates 18 to 30; home guards of every category get a further 5 years. Sub-Inspector under Advertisement No. 05/2025: unreserved men 20 to 37, unreserved women 20 to 40; BC and EBC men and women 20 to 40; SC, ST and third-gender candidates 20 to 42. Age is computed from the date of birth in the Matric certificate.
What is the minimum height?
For both recruitments the advertisements print the same figures. Men of the unreserved and Backward Class categories, 165 cm. Men of the Extremely Backward Class, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories, 160 cm. Women of every category, 155 cm, with a minimum weight of 48 kg and no chest measurement. Chest for men: 81 cm unexpanded and 86 cm expanded for the unreserved, BC and EBC categories, and 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded for SC and ST candidates, with a compulsory expansion of at least 5 cm. Height, chest and weight carry no marks, but failing them means being declared failed.
Does my Constable written score decide my rank?
No. The CSBC advertisement is explicit that the written examination is not the basis of the final merit list and is only qualifying for the Physical Efficiency Test. You must score at least 30 per cent to go forward, and about 5 times the vacancies are called category-wise. The final merit list is prepared on the 100 marks of the PET — race 50, shot put 25, high jump 25.
What decides the Sub-Inspector merit list?
The Mains written examination. The Preliminary is only for shortlisting — 20 times the vacancies go forward and anyone below 30 per cent is out. In the Mains, the General Hindi paper must be passed at 30 per cent but its marks are not added to the merit; the second paper carries the merit. The PET is qualifying only. The final merit list requires a minimum of 32 per cent for SC, ST and women candidates, 34 per cent for EBC, 36.5 per cent for BC and 40 per cent for General candidates.
Is there negative marking?
In the Sub-Inspector examination, yes — 0.2 marks are deducted for each wrong answer in both the Preliminary and the Mains. The Constable advertisement states that one mark is given for each correct answer in the 100-question, 100-mark, two-hour OMR paper and prescribes no deduction for wrong answers.
What do I have to do in the physical test?
For Constable, three events, all marked: a 1 mile (1.6 km) race in under 6 minutes for men or a 1 km race in under 5 minutes for women; shot put with a 16 pound shot to at least 16 feet for men or a 12 pound shot to at least 12 feet for women; and a high jump of at least 4 feet for men or 3 feet for women. For Sub-Inspector, four qualifying events: the race at 6 minutes 30 seconds for men over 1 mile and 6 minutes for women over 1 km, high jump 4 feet for men and 3 feet for women, long jump 12 feet for men and 9 feet for women, and shot put with a 16 pound shot to 16 feet for men and a 12 pound shot to 10 feet for women. There is no long jump in the Constable test.
How much does it cost to apply?
Constable: Rs. 180 for SC and ST candidates, for women of every category who are original residents of Bihar, and for transgender candidates; Rs. 675 for everyone else, plus bank charges. Sub-Inspector: Rs. 100 for all categories and all genders, plus bank charges on the payment method used.
Is there reservation for persons with disabilities in the Constable recruitment?
No. CSBC Advertisement No. 01/2025 states expressly that the reservation provisions made for persons with disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 do not apply to appointment as a Constable in Bihar Police.
I am from outside Bihar. Can I claim reservation?
Caste-based reservation is available only to original residents of Bihar. A candidate from outside the State gets only the horizontal reservation for women, and only under the unreserved category. Reserved-category candidates from other States are counted as unreserved and must declare themselves as unreserved in the online application, otherwise the application is automatically cancelled.
Which website should I watch?
csbc.bihar.gov.in for anything to do with Constable, and bpssc.bihar.gov.in for anything to do with Sub-Inspector. CSBC's notice of 12/05/2026 adds that a new website has been developed at csbc-bih.bihar.gov.in and that candidates may see recruitment information there as well as on the existing site. CSBC has published notices rebutting fake news about its recruitments, so do not rely on any other source.
