Does CEL recruit through GATE?
No. CEL conducts its own written examination. The advertisement states that the selection procedure will include a Written Examination, either Computer-Based Test or Paper-Based, followed by Document Verification and Personal Interview. GATE is not mentioned anywhere in it.
What does the CEL written paper look like?
100 objective multiple-choice questions with four options each, for 100 marks in 2 hours. Part I is a Domain Knowledge Test of 60 questions and Part II is an Aptitude Test of 40 questions covering General English, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. Every question carries 1 mark and incorrect or multiple answers attract a negative mark of one quarter.
What is the qualifying mark?
A candidate must secure a minimum of 50% marks in the written examination with Part I and Part II taken together to be shortlisted for the Personal Interview. This minimum is relaxed by 10% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates against reserved positions only. For the interview itself, the minimum passing marks are 65% for unreserved, 60% for EWS/OBC, 55% for SC/ST and 50% for PwBD candidates, provided the post is reserved for that category.
How is the final merit decided?
Final merit is decided on marks secured in the written examination with 70% weightage and the Personal Interview with 30% weightage. If two candidates tie, the higher age is placed higher in merit, then marks in Part I of the written test, then marks in the Personal Interview.
How many candidates are called for interview?
A maximum of 5 candidates for each vacancy, in order of merit in the written examination. If fewer than 5 times the number of vacancies qualify for a post and category, all of them are called. Candidates securing equal marks are all shortlisted.
Which posts did the 30 April 2026 advertisement cover?
Three E1-grade regular posts, one each: Accounts Officer (reserved SC), Purchase Officer (MMD) (reserved EWS) and Company Secretary (UR).
