How to applyPending verification
- 1Obtain the DGMS certificate of competency for the post first — an Unrestricted Overman Competency Certificate for Junior Overman, or an Unrestricted Mining Sirdarship Certificate of Competency for Mining Sirdar — valid for both opencast and underground mines, along with a valid First Aid certificate and a valid Gas Testing certificate. These are pre-conditions, not something you can produce later.
- 2Watch the careers page of the CIL subsidiary you want to join. MCL publishes its employment notices under 'Our People' at mahanadicoal.in; Coal India Limited's own careers page carries subsidiary notices only occasionally.
- 3Read the employment notice in full, then open the 'Apply Online' link published against it.
- 4Register on the online application portal and complete the application within the window — for the 2026 MCL notice, 16 March 2026 10:00 AM to 6 April 2026 11:50 PM.
- 5Pay the non-refundable application fee online by debit card, credit card or net banking; under Employment Notice No. 600 there was no other mode of payment.
- 6Check the Corrigendum / Addendum section of the application portal before the window closes — MCL uses it to notify additional vacancies.
- 7Apply early rather than at the last minute; MCL states it is not responsible if candidates cannot submit on account of the last-minute rush.
- 8Sit the Computer Based Test when the schedule is notified on the company website. Eligibility is scrutinised after the result, at document verification, so carry every original certificate.
FAQsPending verification
Is there one all-India CIL exam for Junior Overman and Mining Sirdar?
No. Coal India Limited recruits executives centrally — Management Trainees through its own CBT and through GATE — but Junior Overman and Mining Sirdar are T&S grade supervisory posts filled by the individual subsidiary companies against their own employment notices. The only such notice carried on CIL's careers page was issued by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. Follow the subsidiary's own careers page.
Can I apply without a DGMS certificate?
No. A valid Unrestricted Overman Competency Certificate is essential for Junior Overman, and a valid Unrestricted Mining Sirdarship Certificate of Competency for Mining Sirdar, both from DGMS under Coal Mines Regulation 2017 and valid for opencast and underground mines. A valid First Aid certificate and Gas Testing certificate are also required.
What does the exam look like?
A Computer Based Test only, with no personal interview. 100 objective multiple-choice questions for 100 marks: 20 questions on General Awareness / Aptitude and 80 on technical knowledge, one mark each. There is no negative marking and instructions are bilingual.
What are the qualifying marks?
Under MCL Employment Notice No. 600, 45 marks for General and EWS candidates, 40 for OBC (NCL) and 35 for SC/ST, out of 100. Qualified candidates in the ratio of 1:3 are then called for document verification in merit order.
Are PwBD candidates eligible for reservation in these posts?
Not for Junior Overman or Mining Sirdar. MCL's notice states that as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment these two posts do not fall under the identified list of positions for PwBDs. The Surveyor post in the same notice did carry horizontal PwBD reservation.
When is the next Computer Based Test?
Not published. MCL's practice is to notify the exact CBT schedule, the admit card download date and the result date on its website in due course rather than fixing them in the employment notice. Check mahanadicoal.in.
Final eligibility and dates are always subject to the latest official notification. Content marked “Pending verification” is not presented as verified advice.
