Stage-I — Computer Based Online Examination
RequiredPreliminary identity and document check against the online application, then left-thumb biometric recording which is verified or recaptured at every later stage. Candidates carry a valid original identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Driving Licence or Passport) as uploaded, one printout of the e-admit card, and two passport-size colour photographs identical to the uploaded one. There is no negative marking.

Stage-II — Assessment Test, Physical Fitness Test, Document Verification and Recruitment Medical
RequiredAll phases of Stage-II are qualifying only. The Assessment Test is an OMR-based examination whose marks are not included in the final merit list; its result is announced about an hour after it is conducted, and only those who qualify go on to the Physical Fitness Test. The PFT is a 1.6 km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squat ups (uthak baithak) and 10 push-ups, undertaken at the candidate's own risk. Document verification and the recruitment medical examination follow. Stage-II for the 01/26 and 02/26 batches is held separately.

Stage-III — Reporting at INS Chilka
RequiredAadhaar-based verification followed by biometric verification on reporting, then document verification marked provisionally 'Pass' or 'Fail' against all original documents. As INS Chilka is a Naval training establishment, the verification procedures in force at the training base apply to ICG candidates. Original certificates produced at Stage-II are returned after verification.

Stage-IV — Final verification of original documents before enrolment
RequiredThe advertisement states that selection is based on performance in Stages I, II, III and IV, that qualification in Stages I to IV is compulsory for recruitment in the ICG, and that the verification of original documents at Stage-IV is final and binding. - 1Wait for the CGEPT advertisement; applications are accepted only online through the Coast Guard recruitment website. For the 01/2026 and 02/2026 batches the window was 11 June 2025 (1100 hrs) to 25 June 2025 (2330 hrs).
- 2Fill the online application, entering the marks of every subject exactly as shown on your marksheet. Upload documents in .jpeg or .jpg format only.
- 3Pay the examination fee of Rs. 300/- online by net banking or Visa/Master/Maestro/RuPay Credit or Debit Card or UPI. Candidates applying against SC/ST category vacancies are exempt. The fee is never refunded.
- 4Give your examination city preferences in the application form, noting that ICG may allot a different city for Stage-I and Stage-II.
- 5Download the Stage-I e-admit card when the ICG announces availability, and carry to the centre a valid original identity proof as uploaded, one printout of the e-admit card and two passport-size colour photographs matching the uploaded one.
- 6If shortlisted for Stage-II, upload the additional documents listed in the advertisement and select your preferred Stage-II date and centre within the period announced on the ICG website — allocation is first come, first served, and failure to upload or choose in time cancels candidature.
- 7Carry all original documents for verification at Stage-II and again at Stage-III at INS Chilka; originals produced at Stage-II are returned after verification.
- 8SC/ST candidates seeking fare reimbursement should carry the original category certificate with two self-attested photocopies, the original train or bus ticket, a cancelled cheque leaf for NEFT payment and the travel form downloaded from the website.

What does the CGEPT written exam look like for Navik (GD)?
Navik (GD) takes Sections I and II. Section I is 60 questions for 60 marks in 45 minutes at class 10 level — Maths 20, Science 10, English 15, Reasoning 10, GK 5. Section II is 50 questions for 50 marks in 30 minutes on class 12 Maths and Physics, 25 questions each. You must pass both sections separately: 30 plus 20 for UR/EWS/OBC and 27 plus 17 for SC/ST.
And for Yantrik and Navik (DB)?
Yantrik takes Section I plus the engineering section for the branch — Section III Electrical, Section IV Electronics or Section V Mechanical, each 50 questions for 50 marks in 30 minutes at diploma level — and must pass both separately, 30 plus 20 for UR/EWS/OBC and 27 plus 17 for SC/ST. Navik (Domestic Branch) takes Section I only, passing at 30 for UR/EWS/OBC and 27 for SC/ST.
Is there negative marking in CGEPT?
No. The advertisement states plainly that there is no negative marking.
What is the physical test?
At Stage-II, after a qualifying OMR-based Assessment Test, the Physical Fitness Test is a 1.6 km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squat ups and 10 push-ups. It is undertaken at the candidate's own risk, and candidates should bring sports kit.
How is merit decided?
Only Stage-I marks count for merit — Stage-II is entirely qualifying and its Assessment Test marks are not added. Merit lists are zone-wise and category-wise for Navik (GD) and Navik (DB), and All India category-wise for Yantriks. A tie is broken by higher marks in Section-I, and then in favour of the older candidate.

Male Indian citizens aged 18 to 22 against the date-of-birth window for the post and batch. Navik (GD) needs class 12 with Maths and Physics from a COBSE-recognised board; Navik (DB) needs class 10; Yantrik needs class 10 plus an AICTE-approved diploma of 3 or 4 years in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics or Telecommunication engineering, or class 10 and 12 plus a 2 or 3 year diploma in those disciplines. Minimum height is 157 cms, with stated relaxations.
What will I be paid?
Navik (GD) and Navik (DB) start at basic pay ₹21,700 at Pay Level-3; Yantrik starts at ₹29,200 at Pay Level-5 plus Yantrik pay of ₹6,200 — all plus Dearness Allowance and other allowances. Promotion runs up to Pradhan Adhikari / Pradhan Sahayak Engineer at ₹47,600, Pay Level 8. Benefits include free ration and clothing, medical treatment for self and family including dependent parents, 45 days earned leave and 08 days casual leave a year, NPS or UPS with gratuity, and an insurance cover on contribution of ₹75 lakh.
