How many stages does the selection have?
Two. An online screening examination consisting of an objective MCQ paper of 200 marks and a descriptive paper of 40 marks, followed by an interview of 60 marks for those shortlisted.
Does the descriptive paper count towards the merit list?
Yes. The advertisement states that the marks of the Descriptive Paper are reckoned for preparation of the merit list. It is evaluated only for candidates who qualify in the objective test and are placed adequately high, to the extent of about 12 times the number of vacancies in each category.

What is the difference between the Generalist and Specialist papers?
The Generalist objective paper has Reasoning Ability, English Language, Computer Knowledge, General Awareness and Quantitative Aptitude. The Specialist objective paper replaces Computer Knowledge with a Professional Knowledge section of 50 questions and adjusts the other section sizes; both total 200 questions and 200 marks in 140 minutes. The Generalist descriptive paper is Essay plus Precis; the Specialist (Rajbhasha) descriptive paper is Essay in English plus Translation.
