Shortlisting
RequiredIIT Bombay states shortlisting for the Personal Interview is based on CAT performance, academics and duration of work experience, amongst other criteria. IIT Madras states the initial shortlist derives from a composite score assigning due weights to CAT aptitude, past academics, work experience and diversity; it does not publish the numeric weights on the live page. IIT Delhi states that applicants qualifying on CAT are shortlisted and then invited for interview.

How to applyPending verification
- 1Write CAT in the relevant cycle and obtain a valid score. Do not substitute GATE — it is not accepted for these MBA programmes.
- 2Apply separately to each IIT you want. There is no common IIT MBA application: IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras each run their own application window and their own portal.
- 3IIT Delhi: apply through the DMS MBA admission page within its window, then upload the required documents by the separately announced document-upload deadline.
- 4IIT Bombay: apply through the SJMSOM application link, https://portal.iitb.ac.in/mbaapp/somApplicationLinks.jsp, within the published application window.
- 5IIT Madras: apply online through the DoMS MBA admissions page within its window; sponsored candidates must have the application forwarded through proper channels by the employer, and defence personnel apply through their respective government agencies.
- 6If shortlisted, attend the institute's Personal Interview — held at IIT Delhi for DMS, and combined with a writing component at IIT Madras.
- 7Final selection is on a composite score of the CAT score, academics, work experience and interview performance, weighted as each institute specifies.
FAQsPending verification
Can I get into an IIT MBA with a GATE score?
Not at IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay or IIT Madras. All three require a valid CAT score for the full-time MBA, and GATE is not mentioned anywhere in their published MBA eligibility or selection criteria.
So is there an exam called 'GATE for IIT MBA'?
No. There is no such paper. The route is CAT, and each IIT then runs its own interview.
But GATE does get you into IITs, doesn't it?
Yes — into M.Tech and MS programmes, including management-adjacent engineering streams. That is a different degree from the MBA and is outside this record.
Are there any exceptions to the CAT requirement?
Two, both at IIT Madras. IIT graduates with a CGPA of 8.0 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the CAT score requirement, and NRI and foreign national applicants must submit a valid GMAT score instead. IIT Madras also lists defence personnel applying through government agencies as exempted from the national level entrance test.
Is there one application for all IIT MBAs?
No. Each institute runs its own application window and portal. For the 2026-2028 cycle IIT Bombay's window ran 1-31 January 2026, IIT Madras's applications opened 25 December 2025 and closed 31 January 2026, and IIT Delhi's deadline of 26 January 2026 was extended to 1 February 2026.
What marks do I need besides CAT?
IIT Delhi requires 60% aggregate or 6.00 CGPA on a 10-point scale, relaxed by 5% for SC/ST/PwD. IIT Bombay requires 60% (55% for SC/ST/PWD) or a CPI of 6.5 (6 for SC/ST/PWD). IIT Madras requires First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). All three allow final-year students to apply, with provisional admission.
What about IIT Kharagpur?
Not established here. The Vinod Gupta School of Management's own website did not resolve when this record was researched, and IIT Kharagpur's main site served a navigation-only page with no MBA admission content, so no claim is made about its route.
