- 2Apply online through the university admission portal at nadmissions.hpushimla.in, on or before the last date for applying online.
- 3Indicate whether you are applying for subsidized seats, non-subsidized seats, or both — no shifting from non-subsidized to subsidized category is done after the last date for admission is over.
- 4Appear for HPU-MAT at the centre allotted from Shimla, Solan, Dharamshala, Hamirpur, Palampur, Mandi or Una.
- 5Check the written-test result on the HPUBS notice board and on www.hpuniv.ac.in.
- 6Attend the group discussion and personal interview on the dates notified for your category, carrying the degree completion certificate if you appeared provisionally.

What is HPU-MAT and what does it lead to?
HPU-MAT is the Himachal Pradesh University Management Aptitude Test, the written stage of admission to the MBA programme at Himachal Pradesh University Business School, Shimla. Admission is based on merit combining application rating, the aptitude test, a group discussion and a personal interview.
Who can apply?
Anyone holding a first bachelor degree from a university established by law in India with at least 50% marks, or 45% for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. Candidates appearing for their final bachelor degree examination in March or April 2026 may sit the test, with selection subject to meeting the condition later.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. Except for non-subsidized seats, serving or retired defence personnel and State or Government of India nominees, the maximum age is 26 years for boys and 28 years for girls, and 29 years for SC/ST candidates of either sex, reckoned as on 1st July of the year concerned.
How is the test set out?
HPU-MAT is objective type with multiple choice questions in four sections — General Knowledge, English Language Skills, Reasoning and Numerical Skills, and Business Environment Awareness. Each section will have about fifty (50) questions and there is no negative marking.
How do the marks add up in the final merit?
Application rating carries 30 marks, HPU-MAT carries 50 marks, the group discussion 10 marks and the personal interview 10 marks. Separate merit lists are prepared for subsidized and non-subsidized candidates.
Where is the test held?
At Shimla, Solan, Dharamshala, Hamirpur, Palampur, Mandi and Una. A centre is created only if there are enough applicants, and the Business School may change the date or centre.
