IGRUA does not recruit. The entrance leads to admission to a flying training course whose outcome is a Commercial Pilot Licence with Multi-Engine Endorsement and Instrument Rating. Employment as a pilot is a separate matter for airlines.
Type Rating Option
IGRUA states it has a tie-up with FSTC for type training on A320/B737/ATR-72/Q-400 at their Gurugram or Hyderabad centres, and that candidates who wish to undergo this training must indicate it at the time of filling the entrance form.

Who conducts the IGRUA entrance examination?
The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi itself, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. The Akademi states that the online entrance examination process is outsourced to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to ensure transparency.
What are the stages?
Three. An online computer-based written test at an allotted centre, then an interview or viva before an interview board, then a Pilot Aptitude / Psychometric Test. Only candidates successful in the Pilot Aptitude / Psychometric Test qualify for final selection.
What is in the written paper?
General English, Mathematics, Physics, Reasoning and Current Affairs at 10+2 level, objective type questions only, with no negative marking. The Akademi's Selection Procedure page gives the paper duration as 2 hours.
What academic marks do I need?
General candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with English, Mathematics and Physics with a minimum of 50% marks in each subject individually. SC/ST/EWS/OBC non-creamy-layer candidates need a minimum of 45% in each of those subjects.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. Minimum 17 years at the time of joining. The 2026 advertisement sets the maximum age as on 1 January 2026 at 28 years for General, 31 years for OBC and 33 years for SC/ST candidates.
What does the course cost?
The 2026 advertisement gives a training fee of Rs. 55,00,000 payable in four quarterly installments over the first year, plus an admission fee of Rs. 50,000, a commitment deposit of Rs. 2,00,000 and a confirmation deposit of Rs. 12,00,000, with hostel and messing at approximately Rs. 15,000 per month. The Akademi's older Selection Procedure page still shows Rs. 45 lakhs; confirm the current figure with IGRUA.
How many seats are there?
The 2026 advertisement gives 125 seats in total: 49 General, 34 OBC, 19 SC, 13 EWS and 10 ST. If reserved category seats remain unfilled after a 5% relaxation in entrance scores, they are offered to general category candidates.
When is the next entrance likely to be advertised?
The Akademi's admission page states that the advertisement for admission to the Ab-initio to CPL course appears in Employment News and other leading newspapers generally in the month of March or April. At the research date recorded on this record, no advertisement later than ENTRANCE 2026 had been published on the IGRUA website.
