How to applyPending verification
- 1Read the notification cum prospectus and confirm that the candidate meets the eligibility criteria, including the district and block rules.
- 2Keep soft copies ready in JPG format, each between 10 and 100 kb: the candidate's photograph, the parent's signature, the candidate's signature, and Aadhaar details or a residence certificate issued by a competent Government authority.
- 3Open the NVS admission portal linked from navodaya.gov.in and use the 'Registration for Class VI JNVST' link.
- 4Fill in the candidate's State, District, Block, Aadhaar number, APAAR ID and PEN number along with the other basic details.
- 5Upload the photograph and both signatures, then submit the form. Registration is free of cost and may be completed from a desktop, laptop, mobile or tablet.
- 6Confirm the school's area status (rural or urban) before registering, since rural open seats are block specific.
- 7Print the registration form from the portal and download the admit card free of cost when NVS releases it.

When is JNVST 2027 and what is the last date to apply?
The test is on 28 November 2026 from 11:30 AM to 01:30 PM, for Summer bound and Winter bound JNVs in a single phase. The prospectus gives 31 July 2026 as the last date to apply; the NVS application portal announced on 3 August 2026 that the last date has been extended up to 7 August 2026.
Who can sit JNVST for Class VI?
A bonafide resident of the district who is studying Class V in the session 2026-27 in a Government or Government recognised school, and who has studied and passed full academic sessions in Classes III, IV and V. The candidate must be born between 1 May 2015 and 31 July 2017, both dates inclusive. A candidate may sit the test only once.
How is the paper set out?
Two hours, 80 objective questions for 100 marks in one booklet with three sections: Mental Ability plus EVS (40 questions, 50 marks, 60 minutes suggested), Arithmetic (20 questions, 25 marks, 30 minutes) and Language (20 questions, 25 marks, 30 minutes). Each correct answer earns 1.25 marks and there is no negative marking.
Is there a sectional cut-off?
Yes. Minimum qualifying marks must be secured in each section: 14 marks in Mental Ability and EVS, 7 marks in Arithmetic and 7 marks in Language.
Does it cost anything to apply or to study at a JNV?
Registration is free of cost through the NVS portal, and JNV helpdesks upload applications free of cost. Education, board and lodging in a JNV are free; a Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi of Rs. 600 per month is collected only from Classes IX to XII, with SC/ST students, Divyang students, all girls and BPL families exempted.
How many seats are there and how are they reserved?
A maximum of eighty students is admitted to Class VI in each Vidyalaya. At least 75% of a district's seats go to rural candidates, at least one third to girls, 27% to OBC candidates from the Central List, and SC/ST reservation follows district population with a floor of 15% and 7.5% and a combined ceiling of 50%. There is reservation for Divyang children as per Government of India norms.
When will the result come out?
The prospectus states that the result of JNV Selection Test-2027 is expected to be announced by the end of March 2027, on the application portal and in the offices named in the prospectus. Admissions against this test are to be closed by 31 August 2027.
