FAQs
When is the MDL Trade Apprentice Batch 2026 examination?

08 August 2026, a Saturday. MDL's notice states the online examination for trainee selection of batch 2026 will be conducted in the cities of Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur, Latur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Nagpur, with admit cards downloadable from the apprentice portal on or after 28 July 2026.

How many apprentice seats are there in Batch 2026?
  1. The advertisement is headed 'MDL_ATS/01/2026: Selection of 495 Nos. Trade Apprentices for the year 2026 Under the Apprentices Act 1961'. Group A carries 100 seats across five trades, Group B 355 across eleven trades, and Group C 40 across Rigger and Welder (Gas & Electric).
Is there negative marking in the apprentice examination?

No. MDL states there is no negative marking in the examination, i.e. there will be no deduction for a wrong answer. The paper is 100 multiple choice questions in 120 minutes, set trilingually in Marathi, Hindi and English, with the English version prevailing in case of discrepancy.

Can an ITI passed candidate apply under Group A or Group C?

No. ITI passed candidates are not allowed for Group 'A' and Group 'C'. If at any stage of the selection process it is found that a candidate has either passed or appeared for ITI, the candidature is affected. One applicant may apply for both Group A and Group C, but with a separate application form for each.

Is a Non-Executive vacancy open at MDL now?

No. As read on 04 Aug 2026 the Career - Non-Executives page carries no live advertisement. The most recent permanent Non-Executive advertisement is MDL/HR-TA-MP/NE/PER/99/2024, whose online written exam was held on 23 Feb 2025 and whose merit list for the remaining trades was published on 26 Dec 2025.

Does apprenticeship at MDL lead to a job?

The brochure describes apprenticeship as training under the Apprentices Act 1961 with a monthly stipend, leave and holidays as per that Act, and states that no hostel accommodation is provided. It does not promise employment. Separately, MDL's Non-Executive advertisement 99/2024 reserved 10% of vacancies horizontally for Ex-MDL Apprentices, and its apprentice age relaxation clause gives ex-trade apprentices of MDL relaxation to the extent of their tenure.
