We cannot line NExT (National Exit Test) up against other exams yet
This does not mean NExT (National Exit Test) shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

Planning reference — verify the current detailed notice
DO NOT PLAN AGAINST A NExT DATE. This record's value is its honest status. What StudyBddy has verified: (1) the statutory mandate exists - NMC Act, 2019 s.15; (2) the NMC website lists 'NMC, National Exit Test Regulations, 2023' under Rules & Regulations; (3) the NMC website hosts a document whose filename and indexed header are 'Public Notice on NExT Dated 13.07.2023 Deferring the NExT Examination' (No.Cdn.19012/15/2022/Coord-NMC), re-published under nmc.org.in in February 2026 - StudyBddy could NOT render its text through the research proxy (repeated robots.txt/TLS failures on nmc.org.in), so its exact wording is not quoted here; (4) the NMC home page carries no current NExT implementation notice; (5) NBEMS is still running NEET-PG for the 2026 cycle and describes it as 'an eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses' - so NExT has not replaced NEET-PG for postgraduate admission in the 2026 cycle. Also note a common confusion: the 'National Exit Test (NExT) for Ayush', announced by the Ministry of Ayush as effective from the 2021-2022 batch (PIB release, 5 September 2024), is a DIFFERENT examination for Ayurveda/Siddha/Unani/Sowa-Rigpa graduates and is not the NMC's NExT for MBBS.

Next official date is awaited
No dated event is present in the current official record. Follow the authority’s notice page for the next announcement.
NExT implementation has been announced and deferred repeatedly since 2023, and the only NMC document StudyBddy located on this point is the public notice dated 13.07.2023 deferring the examination (hosted on nmc.org.in and re-published there in February 2026), whose text could not be rendered. Treat every date circulating for NExT - including any 2027, 2028 or 2029 date - as unverified unless it appears in a notification on https://www.nmc.org.in/. Meanwhile the operative postgraduate entrance route remains NEET-PG, conducted by NBEMS at https://natboard.edu.in/, which is running its 2026 cycle.

How to applyPending verification
- 1There is nothing to apply for. No NExT registration has ever opened and no implementation date is published in StudyBddy's verified official record.
- 2Watch https://www.nmc.org.in/ (Information Desk - Circulars and Notices, and Rules & Regulations) for any notification appointing the date on which NExT becomes operational under Section 15(3) of the NMC Act, 2019.
- 3For postgraduate admission in the meantime, follow NEET-PG on https://natboard.edu.in/ and INI-CET on https://www.aiimsexams.ac.in/.
- 4Ignore any NExT date, syllabus or pattern circulating outside nmc.org.in - NMC has previously described such circulating notices as fake.
FAQsPending verification
When will NExT be held?
No date is published in StudyBddy's verified official record. Section 15(3) of the NMC Act, 2019 says NExT 'shall become operational on such date... as may be appointed by the Central Government, by notification', and StudyBddy has found no such notification in force as at 30 July 2026. Any specific year circulating for NExT should be treated as unverified until it appears on https://www.nmc.org.in/.
Has NExT replaced NEET-PG?
Not for the 2026 cycle. NBEMS continues to conduct NEET-PG and describes it on its own website as 'an eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses'. Section 15(5) of the NMC Act does provide that NExT 'shall be the basis for admission to the postgraduate broad-speciality medical education', but that provision has not been brought into operation in any notification StudyBddy could verify.
Do the NExT Regulations, 2023 exist?
The NMC website lists 'NMC, National Exit Test Regulations, 2023' under its Rules & Regulations section, and also hosts a document titled 'Public Notice on NExT dated 13.07.2023 deferring the NExT Examination' (No.Cdn.19012/15/2022/Coord-NMC). StudyBddy could not render the text of either document through its research proxy, so nothing is quoted from them here - open them on nmc.org.in directly.
Does NExT apply to foreign medical graduates?
By statute, yes. Section 15(4) of the NMC Act, 2019 states: 'Any person with a foreign medical qualification shall have to qualify National Exit Test for the purpose of obtaining licence to practice medicine as medical practitioner and for enrolment in the State Register or the National Register.' This takes effect only once NExT becomes operational; until then the existing screening arrangements continue.
Is the 'NExT for Ayush' the same exam?
No. A separate National Exit Test for Ayush courses was announced by the Union Minister of Ayush as effective from the 2021-2022 batch (PIB press release, 5 September 2024). That examination covers Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Sowa-Rigpa graduates and is distinct from the NMC's NExT for MBBS graduates.
