How to applyPending verification
- 1Identify the office that recruits where you want to work, using the NHM 'States/UTs Official' page, then open that State NHM or State Health Society website.
- 2Watch its Recruitment / Vacancies / Career section for a Community Health Officer advertisement; there is no national portal that aggregates these and no national application form.
- 3Download and read the advertisement PDF in full before paying anything. Confirm the qualification list accepts your degree, that you are inside the state's age band on that state's reckoning date, and whether a written test is held.
- 4Apply online through the link the advertisement gives. Both advertisements read for this record accept applications only in online mode — Maharashtra states that applications submitted in any manner other than the online form will not be accepted.
- 5Pay the examination or application fee online where one is charged. Maharashtra's advertisement charges Rs.1000 for open-category candidates, Rs.900 for backward-class candidates and Rs.900 for orphan candidates, exempts ex-servicemen and disabled ex-servicemen, accepts the fee online only, and requires the online payment receipt to be produced with the application copy at document verification.
- 6Upload the certificates the advertisement demands. Maharashtra cancels the application if the qualifying degree certificate is not uploaded with it.
- 7Where a test is held, download the admit card when the state releases it — Maharashtra releases it 7 days before the examination through https://nhm.maharashtra.gov.in — and attend document verification and counselling as called.
- 8Keep checking the state website through the process. Maharashtra's advertisement puts the responsibility on the candidate to revisit the site for updates, and warns that the number of posts and the reservation may change during the process, with any change announced on the site.
FAQsPending verification
Is there one national NHM CHO exam?
No. The National Health Mission runs through a State Health Society and a State NHM unit in every State and Union Territory, and each of them advertises and fills CHO posts on its own. The NHM website itself publishes only a State/UT contact list naming each Mission Director — it publishes no national CHO examination, no national syllabus and no national date.
Then how do I find my exam?
Start at https://nhm.gov.in/ and open 'States/UTs Official' under Contact Us to confirm which office runs NHM in your state. Then open that state's own NHM or State Health Society website and read its Recruitment or Vacancies section. Read the advertisement PDF itself — every number that matters is set there.
Is there always a written test?
No, and this is the single biggest reason not to trust a merged national scheme. Maharashtra's advertisement sets a 100-question online objective entrance examination of 100 marks in 120 minutes with no negative marking and a 45-mark pass standard. Uttar Pradesh's 2024 advertisement had no written test at all — selection ran purely on academic merit through a Document Verification Process, weighting class 10, class 12 and the nursing degree.
What qualification do I need?
It depends on the state. Uttar Pradesh's advertisement accepted only B.Sc. (Nursing) or Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) with the integrated Certificate in Community Health for Nurses curriculum, from academic year 2020 onwards. Maharashtra's advertisement accepted BAMS, BUMS, B.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. in Community Health, and stated that applications from any other qualification would not be considered. Check your own state's list.
What is the age limit?
Also state-specific. Uttar Pradesh's advertisement set 21 to 40 years as on the last date of online submission. Maharashtra's set 18 to 38 for the open category and 18 to 43 for backward-class candidates, with higher ceilings for other categories, reckoned as on the last date of application.
What does the job pay?
The state's advertisement decides. Uttar Pradesh's 2024 advertisement offered Rs. 20,500 per month honorarium plus up to Rs. 15,000 per month performance-based incentive, against a Rs. 2.50 lakh surety bond and a minimum three years of service at a Sub-Health Centre level Health and Wellness Centre.
