B.Tech (FTM) - no NIFTEM test, national scores only
RequiredNIFTEM-K uses institute code 430 in JoSAA/CSAB counselling. For direct admissions the candidate applies through the NIFTEM-K portal; the admission process for each qualifying exam commences as and when that examination's results are declared. Where seats remain vacant after all rounds, an On-Spot Counselling round is held on the same Table-1 eligibility criteria, and any still-vacant seats are pooled and allotted on Class XII marks in Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics/Biology + English + one additional subject, with all eligible candidates considered in a single common merit list irrespective of qualifying exam. Foreign students are admitted through DASA-2026 (10 seats) and the Study in India Program (10 seats) as supernumerary quota.

MBA and Executive MBA - NIFTEM-K Internal Test plus GD and Personal Interview
RequiredMBA shortlisting is on a valid CAT/MAT/CMAT score of the year 2025 or on the NIFTEM-K Internal Test score, with the cut-off declared on the recommendation of the selection committee; the selection process then includes a Group Discussion and a Personal Interview, and the final merit list is prepared on GD/PI performance, past academic records and work experience. For the Executive MBA the prospectus prints a 100-mark scorecard: valid CAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT score 2025 or NIFTEM-K Entrance Test 30 marks; Class X marks 10; Class XII marks 10; Graduation marks 10; Work experience 10; Personal Interview 30. A candidate scoring less than 50% is not selected even if the entrance test is qualified. The entrance test syllabus is published on the NIFTEM-K admission portal.

Ph.D. - NIFTEM-K Research Entrance Test (RET), three stages
RequiredStage 1 General Aptitude Test: multiple-choice questions, 60 minutes, one mark each, no negative marking, a qualifying stage only; qualifying marks 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD). Stage 2 Department-Level Screening: written exam, 60 minutes, no negative marking, objective questions plus abstract writing and case studies, department-specific; qualifying marks 60% for UR and 55% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD. Stage 3 Interview: the candidate presents research areas and interests before the interview panel; a minimum of 50% marks in the final scorecard is required for Ph.D. admission and selection is merit-based subject to availability of seats. A candidate applying to more than one department pays the application fee separately and must appear and qualify Stage 2 and Stage 3 of each department.

- 1Decide your route first. For B.Tech (FTM) you can enter either through JoSAA/CSAB 2026 centralised counselling, where NIFTEM-K appears under institute code 430, or through NIFTEM-K Direct Admission on a JEE Main, NEET or CUET score of 2026.
- 2For JoSAA/CSAB entry, follow the JoSAA/CSAB 2026 website for the application procedure and guidelines. The prospectus states that NIFTEM-K will not entertain discrepancies or queries related to admission through this mode.
- 3For NIFTEM-K Direct Admission and for all PG and Ph.D. programmes, apply online through the link on the NIFTEM Kundli website. Application forms are to be filled online only; printed copies must not be sent.
- 4Submit a separate application for each qualifying exam you want to be considered under. For B.Tech, a candidate applying under multiple JEE/NEET/CUET categories must complete a fresh application for each. For M.Tech, applicants who wish to be counselled through both GATE and CUET must submit separate applications for each mode and keep the order of programme preferences identical in both - if the orders differ, the order submitted under the GATE application is treated as final.
- 5Give department and programme preferences carefully at the time of application; a change in the order of preference is not permitted after submission. Course preferences are upgraded automatically during counselling as seats become available, on the GATE and CUET merit lists.
- 6Watch the NIFTEM-K website for merit lists and counselling schedules. They are uploaded on the institute website only, and no postal communication is made to any applicant. NIFTEM-K also attempts email and SMS, so keep the email id and mobile number accurate and deactivate DND during the admission period.

Is there still a NIFTEM entrance exam for B.Tech?
No. NIFTEM-K fills all 200 B.Tech (FTM) seats on national scores - 90 through JoSAA/CSAB 2026 counselling on JEE (Main), and 110 through its own direct-admission portal, of which 50 go to JEE Main, 30 to NEET and 30 to CUET. You need a valid JEE Main, NEET or CUET score for 2026.
So when does NIFTEM conduct a test of its own?
Only for postgraduate seats left vacant after the national-test rounds, and for Ph.D. The M.Tech and M.Sc entrance test for non-GATE / non-CUET candidates is 100 MCQs of one mark each in one hour and thirty minutes with 0.25 negative marking, split into a 30-question common Part-A and a 70-question domain Part-B. The MBA internal test for non-CAT/MAT/CMAT candidates is 50 objective questions of two marks each in 90 minutes with no negative marking, followed by a Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Ph.D. entry is the three-stage Research Entrance Test.
Which NIFTEM is this - Kundli or Thanjavur?
Both exist and they admit separately. This record is built from the NIFTEM-Kundli prospectus. NIFTEM-Thanjavur publishes its own notices on niftem-t.ac.in; for M.Tech 2026-27 it admits GATE-qualified candidates first and then holds a Common Entrance Examination on its own campus for whatever seats remain.
What ranks do I need for the direct-admission route?
Table-1 of the prospectus sets a JEE-Main All India Rank (CRL) below 5 lakh for General/OBC-NCL/EWS and below 7 lakh for SC/ST/PwD; a NEET All India Rank below 7 lakh and 9 lakh respectively; and for CUET a minimum aggregate of 40% and 35% respectively across three domain subjects. Class XII aggregate must be 60% or 55% respectively.
Can I apply under more than one qualifying exam?
Yes, but you must submit a separate application for each qualifying-exam category. Where a candidate has appeared in more than one of JEE Main, NEET and CUET, the prospectus says the higher score or better rank across those exams is considered.
Where do I check the dates?
Only on niftem.ac.in. Every timeline in the prospectus is labelled tentative, and the prospectus says deadlines will be extended in line with national-level entrance test results. The institute has already announced on its home page that the last date to apply for B.Tech (FTM-4 Years), B.Tech (FT)+ MBA and BBA (Hons) was extended till 25 July 2026, and it has issued a corrigendum withdrawing the M.Sc Food Nutrition & Dietetics programme from the 2026-27 admission process.
