How to applyPending verification
- 1Download the prospectus for your level from the NIMHANS Academics > Courses page - the PG prospectus for the July session courses, the UG prospectus for B.Sc., Certificate and post-basic nursing diploma courses.
- 2Find your course's own block in the prospectus and check its qualifying degree, age criterion and qualifying percentage before applying.
- 3Submit the online application within the window in the Calendar of Activities. A candidate may apply for a maximum of three courses and must not submit multiple online applications. The DPN and DNN nursing diplomas use offline application forms instead.
- 4Upload the required enclosures with the form - 10th/SSLC/Matriculation certificate showing date of birth and full name, marks cards of all years or semesters and the degree certificate for the eligible qualification, medical council registration and internship completion certificate where the qualification is MBBS, an attempt certificate where required, transfer certificate, AIU equivalence certificate for a foreign qualification, experience certificate where experience is a criterion, and community or domicile certificates where claimed.
- 5Government and PSU employees must upload a No Objection Certificate with the application.
- 6Download the admit card when NIMHANS notifies it, and carry it to the entrance test centre in Bengaluru.
- 7Sit the entrance test, then watch the NIMHANS website and notice board for the result, the provisional selection list and the admission date - the prospectus states no separate individual intimation will be given.
- 8For MD Psychiatry, DM Neurology (Post MBBS) or M.Ch. Neurosurgery (Post MBBS) apply instead through INI-CET, and for DM (Post MD/DNB) or M.Ch. Neurosurgery (Post MS/DNB) through INI-SS, at aiimsexams.ac.in.

Is there one NIMHANS entrance exam?
No. The prospectus states that separate entrance tests are conducted for each of the courses offered at NIMHANS. They share a common pattern but they are different papers on different course schedules.
What is the pattern?
100 multiple choice objective type questions in 90 minutes. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer, and nothing is deducted for an unanswered question. The same pattern is printed in both the PG and the UG prospectus.
Where is the test held?
For the July session the entrance test is conducted in Bengaluru city only, except the INI-CET and INI-SS entrance tests, which AIIMS New Delhi conducts. Candidates make their own travel and stay arrangements; no TA/DA is paid.
When are the 2026 tests?
For the July 2026 postgraduate session the entrance test at Bengaluru for all courses was scheduled for 29 to 31 May 2026, with applications open from 2 March 2026 to 31 March 2026. For the B.Sc. courses the entrance test was scheduled for 26 July 2026, with applications open from 16 May 2026 to 15 June 2026. Both calendars are marked tentative.
I want to do MD Psychiatry at NIMHANS. What do I sit?
INI-CET. The NIMHANS prospectus states that admission to MD Psychiatry, DM Neurology (Post MBBS Category) and M.Ch. Neurosurgery (Post MBBS Category) is through the online entrance exam conducted by INI-CET, and points candidates to aiimsexams.ac.in.
How does the Ph.D. selection work?
You must clear the entrance test with a minimum of 50% marks to become eligible for the interview. The final rating gives 70% weightage to the entrance test and 30% to the interview, and you must obtain a minimum of 50% marks before the Selection Committee to be eligible for admission. Selection also depends on an eligible guide being available in the department.
How many courses can I apply for?
A maximum of three, provided you are eligible for each, and you must not submit multiple online applications. The Department of Neurology's eight Post Doctoral Fellowship courses share one common entrance examination, and you may choose up to three of them on one application with a separate fee for each.
