How many stages does OICL AO have?
Three. A Phase-I Preliminary Examination of 100 marks online, a Phase-II Main Examination with a 200-mark objective test of 2.5 hours plus a 30-mark descriptive test, and a Phase-III Interview conducted by the Company.
What does the Preliminary Examination contain?
Three separately timed objective sections totalling 100 marks: English language 30 marks in 20 minutes (English only), Reasoning Ability 35 marks in 20 minutes, and Quantitative Aptitude 35 marks in 20 minutes. You must clear each section, and roughly 20 times the vacancies are shortlisted for the Main Examination.
Is there a technical paper?
Yes for specialist streams, and every discipline advertised in this cycle — Accounts, Actuarial, Engineering, Engineering (IT), Medical Officer and Legal — is a specialist stream. The Main Examination carries a 40-mark, 35-minute objective test on technical and professional knowledge in your discipline, alongside Reasoning, English Language, General Awareness and Quantitative Aptitude at 40 marks each.
Does the descriptive test count towards selection?
No. You must qualify it — 15 out of 30, or 13.5 out of 30 for SC, ST and PwBD — but the advertisement states its marks are not counted towards shortlisting for interview or final selection. It is evaluated only if you clear the objective test.
Is there negative marking?
Yes, in both the Preliminary and the Main objective tests. One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for a wrong answer. Blank answers carry no penalty.
How much does the interview count?
The weightage of online examination to interview is 80:20. Up to three times the vacancies of your stream and category are called for interview, and final selection uses the consolidated marks of the Main Examination objective test and the interview.
Do ex-servicemen get reserved posts?
No. The advertisement states there is no reservation for ex-servicemen in the Officers' cadre. Ex-servicemen do get a 5-year age relaxation subject to the conditions in the advertisement.
Is there a bond?
Yes. Before joining as a probationer you must undertake to serve OICL for at least four years including probation, and execute a stamped bond with two sureties who are not blood relatives for an amount equal to one year's gross salary. Resigning or being terminated during probation makes you liable to repay the salary received plus Rs.40,000 towards partial cost of training.
Are these still the current rules?
