Worth preparing alongside

We cannot line OSSTET up against other exams yet

This does not mean OSSTET shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

Is OSSTET the same as OTET?

No. BSE Odisha conducts both, but OSSTET is for the secondary stage and OTET is the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test for the elementary stage. They have separate notifications, application portals and scoring keys.

How is OSSTET marked?

Each paper runs 2 hours and 30 minutes and carries 150 marks. All questions are multiple choice with four alternatives, each carrying one mark, and there is no negative marking. Each paper has four sections: Odia (20 questions), English (20 questions), the stream subject (60 questions) and Child Development, Pedagogy, School Management & Evaluation (50 questions).

What is the pass mark?

The minimum pass mark in each paper is 45%, which the guidelines state as 68 marks out of 150. For SC, ST, PH and SEBC candidates the minimum pass mark is 35%, stated as 53 marks out of 150.

Does passing OSSTET get me a teaching job?

No. The guidelines are explicit that qualifying OSSTET would not confer a right on any person for recruitment. It is an eligibility qualification only; recruitment is a separate process and the weightage given to OSSTET scores is decided by the Government.

How long is the certificate valid and how many attempts do I get?

The OSSTET Pass Certificate remains valid until the candidate reaches the upper age limit prescribed for recruitment of teachers. There is no restriction on the number of attempts.

Which paper do I sit?
