Worth preparing alongside

We cannot line PSSSB Exams up against other exams yet

This does not mean PSSSB Exams shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

FAQs
Is there one PSSSB exam I can prepare for?

No. PSSSB is a board, not an exam. It recruits Group B, Group C and Group D staff for Punjab Government departments against requisitions, and each requisition becomes its own numbered advertisement with its own posts, eligibility, pay and written test. What is common is the method - one objective MCQ paper on OMR, merit from that paper alone, one-fourth negative marking, then counselling.

Do I need Punjabi?

Yes, for every post. Rule 17 of the Punjab Civil Services (General and Common Conditions of Service) Rules, 1994, quoted in the board's advertisements, bars direct appointment to any post in any service unless the candidate has passed Matriculation with Punjabi as a compulsory or elective subject, or an equivalent examination in Punjabi specified by the Government. In some papers Punjabi is also a separately marked qualifying part - the Group D paper under Advt. No. 08 of 2025 had a 50-question Punjabi Part A and Part B was evaluated only for candidates scoring at least 25 marks in it.

What does the paper look like?

It varies by advertisement and is published in a separate 'Plan of Written Examination'. Two examples. Assistant District Attorney (Advt. No. 09 of 2026): 2 hours, Part A of 40 questions on General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Punjab History and Culture, Logical Reasoning and Mental ability, Punjabi, English and ICT, and Part B of 80 subject questions - 120 questions and 120 marks in all. Group D (Advt. No. 08 of 2025): 2 hours 30 minutes, Part A of 50 qualifying Punjabi questions and Part B of 100 questions on the general subjects.

Is there negative marking?

Yes. Each question carries 1 mark and one-fourth of a mark - 0.25 - is deducted for every wrong answer. A question left unattempted receives no credit or discredit. In the Group D paper Part A carried no negative marking; Part B did.

How is merit decided if two candidates score the same?

First by date of birth, the older candidate ranking higher. If still equal, by the percentage in the required educational qualification. If still equal, by matriculation marks.

Is my name on the merit list enough?

No. The advertisement says that applying online, appearing in the written paper, appearing in the merit list or being called for counselling does not by itself make a candidate entitled to be recommended. The name goes to the department only after eligibility is proved in every respect, and if it is not, candidature is cancelled and the board's decision is final.

Can I claim reservation if I am not from Punjab?

No. The benefit of reservation is available only to residents of Punjab state, and every candidate claiming it - man or woman, whatever the category - must produce a domicile or residence certificate not more than 5 years old.

What does it cost to apply, and can I edit my form?

In Advertisement No. 03 of 2026 the fee was Rs 500 for ex-servicemen, EWS, persons with disabilities and lineal descendants of ex-servicemen of Punjab only, Rs 750 for Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes of Punjab only and Rs 1500 for all other categories, non-refundable. Once the form is submitted it cannot be edited in any circumstance, so category and category code in particular must be right the first time.

When do I find out my exam date?

From the board website. Roll numbers, syllabus and other information are published on https://sssb.punjab.gov.in from time to time, the board sends nothing to candidates individually, and a candidate who does not check the website has no later claim. The board publishes both consolidated schedule notices and per-advertisement notices; it does not publish an annual calendar.

Final eligibility and dates are always subject to the latest official notification. Content marked “Pending verification” is not presented as verified advice.
