How to apply

  1. 1Open the portal, read all the instructions given on the website before applying, and click the 'Online Registration' link on the home page.
  2. 2Enter candidate name and father's name. Enter the mobile number and click 'Send OTP on Mobile', then enter the OTP received to verify the mobile number. Enter the e-mail ID and click 'Send OTP on E-Mail', then enter the OTP received to verify the e-mail ID. Enter a password and submit to register on the portal.
  3. 3Click 'Candidate Login', enter the registered e-mail ID, password and captcha, and log in. The portal then shows a list of activities marked PENDING or COMPLETED; all activities must be completed for the application to be submitted successfully.
  4. 4'Fill Basic Details' — date of birth, mother's name, gender, Aadhaar number and address — then 'Save and Next'.
  5. 5'Upload Photo/Sign' — upload the latest passport-size photograph and signature to the dimensions given under that menu option, then 'Save and Next'.
  6. 6Enter academic details, adding each qualification one by one with the 'Add Qualification' button, then 'Save and Next'.
  7. 7Enter 'Test Related Details' — domicile, category and employment status. An employed candidate must hold an NOC from the parent department and select 'Yes', otherwise the application form cannot be filled. Then 'Save and Next'.
  8. 8Check the preview of the application form on screen, tick the declaration and click 'Save & Lock'. After this step no change can be made to the details entered in the previous steps.
  9. 9Select Paper 1, Paper 2 or both, select eligibility for the respective papers and submit; then pay the application fee for each paper separately through the payment link.
  10. 10After successful payment a link for printing the application form is displayed for the papers selected; take a printout.
FAQs
Who can appear in PSTET?

Any resident of India. Beyond that, a person who has acquired the academic and professional qualifications specified in the NCTE notification dated 23rd August 2010, or who is pursuing any of the teacher education courses recognised by the NCTE or the RCI specified in that notification.

Is there an age limit?

No. The portal's General Instructions state that no specific minimum or maximum age limit is prescribed for the candidates.

How many papers are there and do I need both?

Two. Paper 1 is for a person who intends to teach classes I to V and Paper 2 for a person who intends to teach classes VI to VIII. A person who intends to teach at both levels and fulfils the minimum qualifications for both has to appear for both papers. Each paper is applied for and paid for separately.

What is each paper like?

150 multiple choice questions, each carrying one mark, with four alternatives of which one is correct, in two-and-a-half hours. There is no negative marking. Papers are set in four series — A, B, C and D.

How are the 150 questions split?

Paper 1: Child Development and Pedagogy 30, Language I Punjabi 30, Language II English 30, Mathematics 30, Environmental Studies 30 — all compulsory. Paper 2: Child Development and Pedagogy 30, Language I Punjabi 30, Language II English 30, all compulsory, plus a 60-question block that is Mathematics & Science for a maths and science teacher, Social Science for a social studies teacher, and either of the two for any other teacher.

What does it cost?

For PSTET 2025 the portal's General Instructions print Rs 1100 for Paper 1, Rs 1100 for Paper 2 and Rs 2200 for both, for General and OBC candidates; Rs 550, Rs 550 and Rs 1100 for SC, ST and Differently Abled candidates; and Nil for an ex-serviceman himself or herself. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. A candidate from a state other than Punjab is charged the General rate.

Do I need permission from my employer?

Yes if you are currently employed. You must obtain an NOC from your parent department and select 'Yes' in the employment field, otherwise you will not be allowed to fill the application form.

When did the 2025 cycle run?

Registration and application from 06.02.2026 to 20.02.2026, limited correction 21.02.2026 to 23.02.2026, admit card download 09.03.2026 to 15.03.2026, test on 15.03.2026, answer key uploaded 16.03.2026 and objections from 17.03.2026 to 19.03.2026 up to 5.00 PM. Note that the cycle is named 2025 but was conducted in early 2026.

What mark do I need to qualify?

Not recorded here. None of the PSTET documents fetched for this record — the General Instructions page, the Activity Schedule or the structure-and-content document — printed a qualifying percentage or a pass mark, and the PSTET Structure PDF and the advertisement are scanned images from which no text could be extracted. Read those two documents on the portal rather than trusting a figure from anywhere else.

Some fees and a 'seat details' link on the site do not look like PSTET. What is that?

The PSTET portal shares its template with a Guru Nanak Dev University law-admission counselling module. The sidebar 'Registration Fee' of Rs 1200 / Rs 2400, the 'Shifting Fee (for 2nd counselling)', the 'Seat Details' link and the law-course counselling news items belong to that module, not to PSTET. Use the fee table on the General Instructions page.
