RIMC Entrance Exam

Class VIII only. Admission is bi-annual, in January and July each year, and approximately 25 cadets are admitted every six months. The entrance examination is held twice a year — a June examination feeds the following January term and a December examination feeds the following July term.

Yes. RIMC's notification is for the admission of boys and girls to Class VIII, and the College publishes separate merit lists for boys and for girls.

For the Jun 2026 examination, 11½ to 13 years as on 01 Jan 2027 — born not earlier than 02 Jan 2014 and not later than 01 Jul 2015. From the December 2026 examination cycle onwards RIMC has revised the band to 12½ to 14 years. Check which cycle you are applying for before you calculate.

Three papers on one day. Mathematics for 200 marks from 0930 to 1100 hrs, General Knowledge for 75 marks from 1200 to 1300 hrs, and English for 125 marks from 1430 to 1630 hrs. Mathematics and General Knowledge may be answered in Hindi or English. The viva-voce carries 50 marks and the notification prints a Total of 450.

RIMC's admission procedure page states a candidate must obtain a minimum of 50 % marks in each subject to qualify in the written examination, and that the minimum passing marks in the viva-voce will be 50%.

For cycles up to Jun 2026, by buying the Prospectus-cum-Application Form from RIMC — Rs 600 for General and Rs 555 for SC/ST candidates — and submitting the completed form, in duplicate, to your State Government. From the December 2026 cycle the process is fully online through the NTA portal and forms will not be available from RIMC or State Government authorities.

Birth certificate from a Municipal Corporation or Gram Panchayat, domicile certificate, SC/ST certificate where applicable, an original certificate from the Principal of the current school with attested photograph stating the date of birth and current class, and a photocopy of both sides of the candidate's Aadhaar card. RIMC states the application will be rejected if the Aadhaar copy is missing.

On the RIMC website. The notification states results will be uploaded there and that candidates are responsible for regularly checking the site. Selected candidates must join RIMC within 10 days of receiving the Joining Instructions, which are sent to the email ID given in the application form.

No. The notification states that under no circumstances is any candidate, parent, guardian, relative or friend permitted to approach any officer in the Service Headquarters or any other person concerned with selection, and that any attempt to do so is liable to result in rejection of the candidate.
