How to applyPending verification
- 1Apply online only through the SAIL careers page on www.sail.co.in or www.sailcareers.com. No other means or mode of application is accepted. For this cycle the window ran from 15 November 2025 to 15 December 2025.
- 2Before registering, have ready a valid email ID and mobile number valid for at least one year, a recent passport-size photograph (jpg/jpeg up to 50 KB), a digital signature image (jpg/jpeg up to 20 KB), and the means to pay the fee online.
- 3Pay Rs 1050 as application fee including processing fee (General/OBC-NCL/EWS) or Rs 300 as processing fee only (SC/ST/PwBD/ESM/Departmental). Bank charges are extra and the fee is never refunded.
- 4Complete the One Time Registration, then log in and complete the five steps: personal details, photograph and signature upload, document upload, payment and submission, and print.
- 5Your application number is generated only after payment is confirmed. Registration without confirmed payment is incomplete.
- 6Enter your name exactly as it appears in the Matriculation certificate, and choose your category carefully — the category cannot be changed later and no request for editing a wrongly submitted application is entertained.
- 7Download and keep the system-generated Provisional Application Form and the fee e-receipt.
- 8SAIL does not scrutinise eligibility at the application stage. Eligibility is verified only at the GD/Interview, where originals of date-of-birth proof, category certificate, qualification documents, registration slip, fee e-receipt and NOC (if employed) must be produced.
- 9Watch the SAIL careers website and your email for the CBT admit card and the GD/Interview call letter — SAIL sends no other communication and the responsibility for downloading and printing them is the candidate's.

Does SAIL Management Trainee (Technical) selection run on GATE?
No. Advt. No. HR/REC/C-97/MTT/2025 requires candidates to appear for SAIL's own Online Examination (Computer Based Test) at SAIL-designated centres, and the CBT was held on 23 February 2026. The advertisement makes no reference to GATE at any point.
What does the SAIL MTT online examination look like?
200 marks in two parts: a Domain Knowledge Test of 100 marks in 40 minutes, and an Aptitude Test of 100 marks in 80 minutes made up of Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, Reasoning and General Awareness at 25 marks each.
How do I qualify for the Group Discussion and Interview?
You must qualify in each part of the online examination separately, scoring at least 50 percentile for UR/EWS posts and 40 percentile for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD, within your discipline and category. Those who qualify are shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio discipline-wise and category-wise.
How is the final merit calculated?
By combining the Online Examination, Group Discussion and Interview scores in the weightage 75:10:15, prepared separately for each category.
Is there negative marking in the SAIL MTT CBT?
The advertisement does not say. StudyBddy does not infer a marking rule that the authority has not published.
Is 65% in the final semester enough?
No. Both the advertisement and SAIL's FAQ require 65% as the average of all semesters, not just the final year or semester, and marks are not rounded off.
What is the pay?
Basic pay of Rs 50,000 per month in the scale Rs 50,000-1,60,000 during the one-year training, then designation as Assistant Manager in E1 grade in the scale Rs 60,000-1,80,000. The advertisement puts the CTC at approximately Rs 16-17 lakh per annum at the minimum of E-1 grade, excluding PRP and location allowances.
Can I ask for a transfer after joining?
Not for the first four years of service (two years for departmental candidates). Posting can be at any plant, unit or mines location.
