We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

How to apply
Open official application page
  1. 1Wait for the advertisement. The Indian Army's page says it is published in leading National Newspapers, in Employment News and on www.indianarmy.nic.in.
  2. 2Civilian candidates apply online using the Indian Army website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. The Territorial Army also runs its own portal at www.jointerritorialarmy.gov.in.
  3. 3Applications found correct are called for screening by a Preliminary Interview Board of the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters - a written examination first, and an interview only for those who pass it.
  4. 4Successful candidates then undergo tests at a Services Selection Board, a Medical Board, and police verification for final selection.
  5. 5Ex-Service Officers instead apply directly to the Additional Directorate General of Territorial Army and are screened by the Army Headquarters Selection Board at New Delhi, then medically examined at the Armed Forces Clinic, New Delhi.
  6. 6Departmental TA applicants submit the application through their Head of Department to the TA Group Headquarters.
FAQs
Is there a written exam to become a Territorial Army officer?

Yes, for civilian candidates. The Indian Army's page says applicants are called for screening by a Preliminary Interview Board - a written exam, followed by an interview only if they pass the written exam. Ex-service officers and Departmental TA applicants are not put through this written paper.

What is in the PIB written examination?

Two objective papers on OMR answer sheets. Paper I is Reasoning and elementary Mathematics for 100 marks; Paper II is General Knowledge and English for 100 marks. The Army's pattern document records the number of questions for each paper as 50+50.

How long is each paper and when is it held?

The Army's pattern document says the maximum time for each paper is 02 hrs, and that the papers are conducted in two sessions, from 1000hrs to 1200hrs and from 1400hrs to 1600hrs.

What do I need to score to qualify?

Minimum 40% marks in each paper separately, and an overall average of 50%.

Is there negative marking?

Yes. Every question has four possible answers, and half of the mark assigned to a question is deducted for a wrong answer. Marking more than one answer counts as wrong even if one of them is correct.

Who is eligible?

For the Non Departmental route: only citizens of India, aged 18 to 42 years, a graduate from a recognised university, and gainfully employed. For the Departmental route: 18 to 42 years, or 18 to 45 years for a medical officer, with graduation and an appropriate technical qualification, and employment in Indian Railway, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL or ONGC.

When does the application window open?

StudyBddy could not read a dated advertisement - the Territorial Army portal did not respond on the research date. The Indian Army's own page gives recurring windows, and does so inconsistently: it says civilian candidates apply in May-June every year, that ex-service officers apply in Dec every year, and elsewhere that gainfully employed candidates apply in June – July and December – January each year. Go by the advertisement itself.

Where are the Preliminary Interview Boards held?

At the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters - Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Lucknow.

Final eligibility and dates are always subject to the latest official notification. Content marked “Pending verification” is not presented as verified advice.
