How to applyPending verification
- 1Apply only through online mode on the Teachers Recruitment Board website.
- 2Use a separate application for Paper-I and Paper-II, with separate fees.
- 3Keep ready a scanned recent colour passport-size photograph in JPG, JPEG or PNG format of 20-60 kb and a signature in the same formats of 10-30 KB, separately.
- 4Pay the examination fee online through the payment gateway by net banking, credit card or debit card. An SMS alert about successful payment is sent to the registered mobile number.
- 5Submit before the last date — failure to pay the prescribed fee in time along with the online application results in rejection of the application after due process.

Who conducts TNTET?
The Teachers Recruitment Board, Government of Tamil Nadu, which the Government designated as the nodal agency for conducting the Teacher Eligibility Test vide G.O. Ms. No. 181, School Education (C2) Department, dated 15.11.2011.
What is the paper like?
An OMR-based written examination of 150 multiple choice questions for 150 marks in 3 hours. Paper-I, for classes I to V, has five parts of 30 questions each — Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II English, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Paper-II, for classes VI to VIII, has 30 questions each for Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I and Language-II English, plus a 60-question subject part.
Can I write both papers?
Yes, but you must submit a separate application with a separate fee for Paper-I and for Paper-II.
Which language will my paper be in?
For Paper-I you choose Tamil or English as the medium for Child Development and Pedagogy, Mathematics and Environmental Studies; for Paper-II the same choice covers Child Development and Pedagogy and the 60-mark subject part. Language-I is chosen from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada or Urdu, and Language-II is English. Your Language-I matters beyond the paper: the notification says that for the recruitment process you are eligible only for vacancies in the medium concerned.
What marks do I need to pass?
Read the notification you are applying under, because the rule changed. Notification No.03/2025 set 90 marks for General, 82 marks for SC, SC(A), BC, BC(M), MBC/DNC and PwD, and 60 marks for ST as a one-time concession for the 2025 test. The Board's TNTET page then records G.O. Ms. No. 23, School Education (TRB) Department, dated 28.01.2026 setting minimum qualifying marks at OC 90; BC, BC(M), MBC/DNC 75; SC, SC(A), ST 60, and 60 marks for PwD candidates per G.O. Ms. No. 46 SE (TRB) dated 25.02.2026.
Is there an age limit?
Notification No.03/2025 required candidates to be minimum 18 years old as on 01.07.2025, with no upper age limit. The reference date moves with each notification.
How long is the certificate valid?
For life. G.O. Ms. No 128, School Education (TRB) Department, dated 23.08.2021 made the validity period of the TET certificate for appointment lifelong unless otherwise notified, and the Board records that this applies to certificates already issued.
Does passing TNTET get me a teaching job?
No. Mere holding of a TET certificate confers no right to appointment — it is only one of the eligibility criteria. Under G.O. Ms. No. 149, School Education (TRB) Department, dated 20.07.2018, TNTET-qualified candidates have to appear for a separate competitive examination related to recruitment. The Board's own page records that as of 15.04.2026 there were 1,12,188 Paper I qualified candidates and 1,69,796 Paper II qualified candidates available but not selected.
I am already a working teacher. Is there a separate test for me?
Yes. Notification No.01/2026 is a Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test for Working Teachers, open only to teachers appointed on or before 01.09.2025 as SGT, BT Assistant or other equivalent cadre teachers on time scale, consolidated or part-time pay in the listed departments and in Government, Government Aided and Unaided Recognized Private Schools. TRB was permitted to notify and conduct it by G.O.(Ms).No.231, School Education (TRB) Department, dated 13.10.2025.
Should I trust the examination date printed in the notification?
Treat it as provisional. TRB prints examination dates as 'FN (Tentative)'. For TNTET-2025 the notification gave 01-11-2025 and 02-11-2025 but the Board's TNTET page records the papers as actually held on 15.11.2025 and 16.11.2025. The hall ticket carries the date, time and centre, and the Board asks candidates to check its website periodically.
How hard is it?
It varies enormously by cycle, and the Board publishes the numbers itself. In 2019, 162,316 candidates wrote Paper I and 551 passed — 0.33%; Paper II had 379,735 candidates and 316 passes at 0.08%. In 2025, Paper I had 92,417 candidates with 46,083 passes at 49.86% and Paper II had 331,900 candidates with 105,946 passes at 31.92%. Do not assume a stable cut-off pattern.
What can I not carry into the hall?
A mobile phone and its accessories, Bluetooth devices and other electronic gadgets are prohibited anywhere in the examination centre premises, whether in use or switched off and whether on your person or not. Possession alone leads to summary cancellation of candidature, without prejudice to criminal action or debarment from TRB examinations.
