FAQs
Who conducts UKPSC PCS and what is it called officially?

The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, Haridwar-249404. The official name is the Uttarakhand Combined State Civil / Upper Subordinate Services Examination (उत्तराखण्ड सम्मिलित राज्य सिविल/प्रवर अधीनस्थ सेवा परीक्षा). Its website is https://psc.uk.gov.in.

Is this the same as the Lower Subordinate exam?

No. The Commission separately conducts the Uttarakhand Combined State Civil Lower Subordinate Services Examination, which has its own advertisements, dates and results. Notices for one do not apply to the other.

What is the exam pattern?

Three stages. Preliminary: two objective papers — General Studies (150 questions, 1 mark each, 150 marks, 2 hours) and General Aptitude Test (100 questions, 1.5 marks each, 150 marks, 2 hours). Main: eight written papers totalling 1500 marks. Interview: 150 marks. Grand total for written plus interview is 1650 marks.

Is there negative marking in the Preliminary Examination?

Yes. One-fourth (1/4) of the marks prescribed for a question is deducted for each wrong answer, and also where more than one answer is given to the same question even if one of them is correct.

Does the General Aptitude Test paper count for merit?

No. The Preliminary merit list is prepared only on the marks of the first paper, General Studies. The General Aptitude Test paper is qualifying, with 33% mandatory for candidates of all categories and sub-categories.

What is the age limit?

For the 2025 cycle, minimum 21 and maximum 42 years computed as on 01 July 2025 — date of birth not after 01 July 2004 and not before 02 July 1983. Relaxations of 5 years apply to Uttarakhand SC/ST candidates and to Uttarakhand divyang candidates for Group 'A' and 'B' posts, and up to 5 years to candidates with at least five years of service. The reference date changes each cycle.

When is the next exam?
