FAQsPending verification
Can I apply for UP Lekhpal without the UPSSSC PET?
No. Advertisement No. 02-Exam/2025 states that only candidates who hold the mandatory qualification for the post and who took part in PET-2025 and were issued a PET-2025 score card may apply online. Shortlisting for the mains is done on merit on the normalised PET-2025 score, and candidates whose absolute or normalised PET score is zero or less, or negative, are not shortlisted at all.
Who conducts UP Lekhpal, and for which department?
The examination is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC), Lucknow. The posts themselves are under the Board of Revenue, Uttar Pradesh (राजस्व परिषद, उत्तर प्रदेश), Lucknow.
What is the exam pattern for the Lekhpal Mains?
One question paper of 100 objective multiple-choice questions in two hours (120 minutes). Each question carries one mark, and there is negative marking of 25 percent - one quarter of the marks prescribed for that question - for every wrong answer. The 100 marks split as Part-1 65 (History and National Movement 5, Polity and Constitution 5, Geography 5, Economy and Social Development 5, Rural Society and Development 5, Current Events 5, Science and Technology 5, Environmental Ecology and Disaster Management 10, Data Interpretation 10, General Hindi 10), Part-2 Computer and Information Technology 15, and Part-3 general information on Uttar Pradesh 20.
What qualification and age do I need?
Under the Uttar Pradesh Lekhpal Seva Niyamavali, 2006 as amended, you must have passed the Intermediate examination of the Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Uttar Pradesh, or an examination the Government recognises as equivalent. You must have attained 18 years and not more than 40 years on the first July of the calendar year in which the vacancies are advertised, with a higher upper limit for SC, ST and other categories the Government notifies. Two years' service in the Territorial Army or an NCC 'B' certificate is a preferential qualification when candidates are otherwise equal.
How many posts were advertised, and at what pay?
7994 permanent posts of Lekhpal under the Board of Revenue, Uttar Pradesh, at Pay Matrix Level-3, pay scale Rs. 21700 to Rs. 69100. The vertical split is Unreserved 4165, Scheduled Caste 1446, Scheduled Tribe 150, Other Backward Class 1441 and EWS 792. Horizontal reservation within those posts is 1592 for women, 391 for ex-servicemen, 152 for dependants of freedom fighters, 152 for outstanding sportspersons, and for Divyangjan 111 hard of hearing, 169 multiple disabilities and 44, 42, 51, 37 and 45 across the locomotor-disability sub-categories.
What were the dates for this cycle?
The advertisement was published on 16-12-2025. Online application and fee payment opened on 29-12-2025 and closed on 28-01-2026, with fee reconciliation and application correction open until 04-02-2026. The Commission's own calendar dated 03 August 2026 records that the Lekhpal Mains written examination was conducted on 21.05.2026. No result notice for this advertisement was live on the Commission's website as at 3 August 2026.
Is there an interview?
No. The advertisement states that the basis of selection is the written examination, under the Uttar Pradesh rules of 2017 that discontinued the interview for direct recruitment to lower-level posts, notified on 31 August 2017. The previous Lekhpal cycle's own notices confirm that the final selection result followed the written examination and eligibility/record verification only.
What happened in the previous Lekhpal cycle?
Under Advertisement No. 01-Exam/2022, राजस्व लेखपाल मुख्य परीक्षा (PET-2021)/02, 8085 posts were advertised and the final selection result of 7897 candidates was declared on 30.12.2023. Following a Supreme Court order dated 24.04.2025 in Civil Appeal No. 12069/2024 (Ritesh Kumar Singh and others v. State of Uttar Pradesh and others) and connected petitions, the Commission - without disturbing those already selected - re-marked the petitioners on the revised answer key and, applying the category-wise cut-off already fixed, declared the final selection of a further 114 candidates on 23.07.2025.
