HTET is an ELIGIBILITY TEST, not a recruitment. Qualifying it produces an HTET certificate that makes you eligible to be considered for a teaching post in a recognised school in Haryana — it does not create a job, a posting or a salary. Haryana fills actual teacher vacancies through a separate recruitment process with its own notification, vacancies, age limits and merit list. On domicile: you do NOT need to be a Haryana domicile to sit HTET — the Board's own fee table provides for non-Haryana-domicile candidates — but Haryana domicile does matter in two concrete ways, namely a lower application fee for SC/PH candidates of Haryana domicile, and a lower qualifying threshold (55%, i.e. 82 marks) for SC/Differently Abled candidates of Haryana domicile, where SC/PH candidates of other states must still score the general 60% (90 marks). Also note that HTET has three levels while the national CTET framework has two papers — Haryana adds Level-III for PGT (classes IX-XII), which has no CTET equivalent. How to applyPending verification
- 1Watch bseh.org.in for the Board's HTET press note and Information Bulletin for the cycle.
- 2Read the Information Bulletin and decide which level or levels to apply for — Level-I for classes I-V, Level-II for classes VI-VIII, Level-III for classes IX-XII. You may apply for one, two or all three levels, and the fee rises accordingly.
- 3Confirm your educational qualification for that level, including the Hindi or Sanskrit at Matric level or above requirement, and (for Level-II and Level-III) your elected subject discipline.
- 4Apply online only, through the Board's official HTET portal linked from bseh.org.in — HTET-2025 used https://htet.eapplynow.com and HTET-2024 used the Board's earlier portal. Upload the photograph and signature as specified.
- 5Pay the fee for the number of levels applied for: for HTET-2025, ₹500/₹900/₹1,200 for SC/PH candidates of Haryana domicile and ₹1,000/₹1,800/₹2,400 for all other candidates including non-Haryana-domicile candidates.
- 6Use the correction window if you need to fix your application — HTET-2025 provided 4-5 January 2026.
- 7Download the admit card from the portal; it is not sent by post.
- 8Appear for the 150-question, 150-mark, 150-minute OMR paper for each level applied for. There is no negative marking.
- 9After qualifying, complete the biometric verification the Board requires and download the HTET certificate. Then apply separately to the Haryana teacher recruitment when it is notified — the certificate alone is not a job.

Does qualifying HTET give me a teaching job in Haryana?
No. HTET is an ELIGIBILITY test. The Board's bulletin describes it as a mandatory qualification for teaching positions in recognised schools in Haryana that establishes the candidate has the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching. It produces a certificate that makes you eligible to be considered — the actual posts are filled through a separate Haryana teacher recruitment with its own notification, vacancies, age limits and merit list.
What are the three HTET levels and which classes do they cover?
Level-I is for Primary Teacher (PRT) and covers classes I-V. Level-II is for Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and covers classes VI-VIII. Level-III is for Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) and covers classes IX-XII. Note that this is broader than the national CTET framework, where Paper I covers classes I-V and Paper II covers classes VI-VIII and there is no PGT-level paper.
How long is the HTET certificate valid?
For life. The Board's HTET Information Bulletin states that the validity period of the HTET qualifying certificate for appointment will be lifetime from the date of issuance of the certificate, for all levels. This follows NCTE's amendment of 9 June 2021 to its TET Guidelines, which made the TET qualifying certificate valid for life unless otherwise notified by the appropriate Government, replacing the earlier seven-year validity.
Do I need to be a Haryana domicile to appear for HTET?
No. The Board's own fee table expressly provides for candidates of non-Haryana domicile. But domicile does matter in two ways: SC and PH candidates of Haryana domicile pay a lower fee, and SC and Differently Abled candidates of Haryana domicile qualify at 55% (82 marks) whereas SC and Differently Abled candidates of other states must still score the general 60% (90 marks).
What is the exam pattern and is there negative marking?
All three levels have 150 multiple-choice questions of one mark each, total 150 marks, in 150 minutes, conducted as a conventional pen-and-paper test on OMR sheets with four options per question and NO negative marking. Level-I: Child Development & Pedagogy 30, Languages 30 (Hindi 15 + English 15), General Studies 30 (Quantitative Aptitude 10 + Reasoning 10 + Haryana GK 10), Mathematics 30, Environmental Studies 30. Levels II and III: Child Development & Pedagogy 30, Languages 30, General Studies 30, and the elected subject 60.
What are the qualifying marks?
60% (90 marks) for General candidates at all three levels; 55% (82 marks) for SC and Differently Abled candidates of Haryana domicile; and 60% (90 marks) for SC and Differently Abled candidates of other states.
Is there an age limit or a cap on attempts?
The HTET-2024 Information Bulletin prescribes no age limit for appearing, and there is no restriction on attempts — the bulletin expressly allows a candidate who has already qualified to reappear in order to improve their score. Age limits apply at the recruitment stage, not at the eligibility-test stage.
Is Haryana General Knowledge really part of the paper?
Yes. Unlike CTET, HTET's General Studies block of 30 marks at every level includes 10 marks of Haryana General Knowledge alongside 10 marks of Quantitative Aptitude and 10 marks of Reasoning. Candidates preparing from CTET material alone routinely miss this section.
