Foreign Nationals must upload an equivalence certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities unless they passed Class XII or equivalent in 2024 or 2025, or are appearing in 2026, in the science stream from a board recognised by COBSE in India.

- 2Pay the non-refundable application fee during submission of the application form: Rs. 2,000 for General/EWS/OBC/OBC-NCL, Rs. 1,000 for PwD, Kashmiri Migrants/Kashmiri Pandits/Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrant) and SC/ST, and Rs. 12,000 for Foreign Nationals.
- 3Use the correction window if any detail needs changing (for IAT 2026, 11:00 AM IST on 16 April 2026 to 11:55 PM IST on 18 April 2026).
- 4Download the hall ticket when it is released (24 May 2026 for IAT 2026) and appear for the computer-based test.
- 5After the answer key is displayed, upload the candidate response form and file objections in the objection window if needed.
- 6Do NOT give IISER preferences in the exam application form. Preferences are filled in only after the results, during counselling registration on the same portal.
- 7If an offer is received, choose 'Accept & Float' or 'Accept & Freeze' and pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (Rs. 35,000 for General/EWS/OBC-NCL/PwD/KM categories, Rs. 17,500 for SC/ST) online before the round deadline.

What was the IAT 2026 exam date and is the cycle still open?
IAT 2026 was held on Sunday, 7 June 2026 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon IST and results were declared on 29 June 2026. The application window closed on 13 April 2026, so the 2026 cycle is past the test stage; only the counselling rounds remain, with Round 3 running 10-13 August 2026.
How is the IAT paper structured?
60 multiple-choice questions - 15 each from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics - in 180 minutes as a computer-based test. Each correct answer is worth 4 marks, each incorrect answer costs 1 mark and unanswered questions score 0, so the maximum is 240 marks.
Who can apply for IAT?
For IAT 2026, candidates had to have passed Class XII (or equivalent) in 2024 or 2025 or be appearing in 2026 from a COBSE-recognised board, with at least three of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, and at least 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Mathematics in Class XII is additionally required for the Computational and Data Sciences programme at IISER Kolkata, the B.Tech. and BS Economic Sciences programmes at IISER Bhopal, and the BS in Economic and Statistical Sciences at IISER Tirupati.
What does IAT cost?
The non-refundable application fee for IAT 2026 was Rs. 2,000 for General/EWS/OBC/OBC-NCL, Rs. 1,000 for SC/ST/PwD/Kashmiri Migrant candidates and Rs. 12,000 for Foreign Nationals. If an admission offer is accepted, a Seat Acceptance Fee of Rs. 35,000 (Rs. 17,500 for SC/ST) is payable, which is later adjusted against the first semester fee at the allotted IISER.
Is there any other route into an IISER BS-MS programme?
No. The official Admission Process page states that admission to IISERs is exclusively through the IISER Aptitude Test.
