    Phase I - On-line Preliminary Examination (Objective type)

    Required

    Purely qualifying. A candidate has to qualify in each of the four objective tests separately and also in aggregate, as per cut-offs decided by IRDAI, with separate cut-offs possible for each specialised stream and the Generalist stream. Approximately 20 times the number of vacancies are shortlisted for Phase II, subject to availability. Marks secured in Phase I do not count towards the final merit.

    Phase II - Descriptive Examination

    Required

    Candidates must appear for all three papers. Shortlisting for Phase III is based on the aggregate marks obtained in Papers I, II and III of Phase II only.

    Required

    Only candidates shortlisted from Phase II are called. Final selection is on the basis of Phase II and the Interview taken together, in order of merit, with a weightage of 85:15 between Phase II - Descriptive Examination and the Interview.

  1. 1Applications are submitted only in 'On-line' mode through the IRDAI website www.irdai.gov.in; no other mode is available or accepted.
  2. 2Go to www.irdai.gov.in, click the 'Careers' tab and then the option 'Recruitment for the post of Assistant Manager (2024)' to open the on-line application form.
  3. 3Click 'Click here for New Registration' and enter your basic information; note down the provisional registration number and password generated by the system, which are also emailed to you. Basic information once saved cannot be edited.
  4. 4Use 'SAVE AND NEXT' to complete the form across sittings and to verify details before final submission.
  5. 5Click 'COMPLETE REGISTRATION' at the end - no change is permitted after this.
  6. 6Pay the fee/intimation charges online for both phases together - Rs. 100 for SC/ST/PwBD and Rs. 750 for all others.
  7. 7SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates wanting pre-examination training must additionally send the Annexure-3 application to the CGM (HR), IRDAI, Survey No. 115/1, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Hyderabad-500 032 after applying online.

Is IRDAI Assistant Manager recruitment open right now?

No. As of 3 August 2026 the latest IRDAI Assistant Manager notification is the 2024 one, whose selection list was published on 21.02.2025. Nothing newer for this post appears on IRDAI's Careers > Notifications/Vacancies page, whose most recent entry is from 03-11-2025 and relates to Member (Actuary) and Member (Distribution).

What was the exam pattern in 2024?

Three phases. Phase I was an on-line objective test of 160 questions for 160 marks in a composite 90 minutes - Reasoning, English, General Awareness and Quantitative Aptitude, 40 questions each - and was purely qualifying. Phase II was a descriptive examination of three papers of 100 marks and 60 minutes each: English, Economic and Social Issues impacting Insurance, and Insurance and Management. Phase III was an interview.

How is the final merit calculated?

Phase I marks do not count. Shortlisting for the interview is on aggregate Phase II marks alone, and the final merit is Phase II and the interview weighted 85:15.

Is there negative marking?

Yes, one fourth (1/4th) of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in the Phase I objective tests.

Who could apply in 2024?

Indian citizens aged 21 to 30 as on 20.09.2024. The Generalist stream needed graduation with at least 60% marks; the Actuarial, Finance, Law, IT and Research streams each had their own professional qualification with a 60% minimum.

What were the 2024 cut-offs?

For shortlisting to the interview, out of 300 Phase II marks: 178 UR/GEN, 169 EWS, 170 OBC, 155 SC and 162 ST. The combined final score of the last candidate selected, out of 100, was 69.16 for UR/GEN, 67.15 EWS, 66.41 OBC, 64.56 SC and 64.09 ST.

What does the job pay?

Starting basic pay of Rs. 44,500 per month in the scale Rs. 44500-2500(4)-54500-2850(7)-74450-EB-2850(4)-85850-3300(1)-89150, with initial monthly gross emoluments of approximately Rs. 1,46,000, plus a one-year probation and a three-year service bond of Rs. 6 lakh.
