We cannot line JEST up against other exams yet
This does not mean JEST shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

How to applyPending verification
- 1Keep a valid and unique email address ready; it must be maintained throughout the selection process, as all JEST correspondence and later institute communication goes to it.
- 2Register on the JEST application portal, reached from the home page of the official JEST website. Registration is a two-step process: (1) Registration and (2) Declaration/Verification.
- 3At Registration, submit basic information including name, e-mail ID and phone number, then click 'GENERATE OTP', fill in the captcha and submit; an OTP is sent to the registered email id and mobile number. Submit the OTP to proceed.
- 4Complete registration by verifying the information in the 'Declaration' section. A USER ID and PASSWORD are generated at this point.
- 5Click 'GO TO APPLICATION' and fill the application form in three stages: 'Personal Details', 'Educational Details' and 'Exam City'.
- 6Pay the application fee online by Debit card, Credit card, Net-banking or UPI. Successful payment concludes the application procedure.
- 7Download the admit card from the JEST registration portal a few days before the examination using the User ID and Password. Admit cards are not sent by post or email.
- 8Carry a print-out of the downloaded admit card and one photo ID card to the examination center.
FAQsPending verification
Who conducts JEST and where is the only reliable information?
JEST is conducted by the JEST Consortium of participating science institutes; the organizing institute for JEST 2026 is IISER Tirupati. The site itself warns that numerous websites report misinformation and asks candidates to visit only https://www.jest.org.in for correct and up-to-date information.
Who can appear for JEST?
There are no specific criteria to appear for JEST, no age limit and no limit on the number of attempts. What matters is the eligibility criteria of the institute you later apply to, which each participating institute sets on its own website.
What was the JEST 2026 schedule?
The application portal was open from 26 February 2026 and closed on 25 March 2026 after an extension from 23 March. Admit cards were available from 7 April 2026, the exam was held on Sunday 12 April 2026 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, answer keys were released on 17 April 2026 with a 48-hour challenge window closing 19 April 2026, and results were declared on 30 April 2026.
How is the JEST 2026 Physics paper marked?
180 minutes and 100 marks in three parts. Part A has 10 multiple-choice questions at +1 for a correct answer and −1/3 for a wrong one. Part B has 20 multiple-choice questions at +3 and −1. Part C has 10 numerical-answer questions at +3 with no negative marking.
How is the JEST 2026 Theoretical Computer Science paper marked?
180 minutes in two parts. Part A has 25 multiple-choice questions at 3 marks for a correct answer, –1 for an incorrect one and 0 for unattempted. Part B has 9 questions: you are expected to solve three of the eight-mark questions (1 to 5) and two of the thirteen-mark questions (6 to 9), and Part B closes after 105 minutes.
How long is a JEST score valid?
The JEST 2026 score remains valid till the date of declaration of the results of JEST 2028.
Can I take both Physics and Theoretical Computer Science?
No. In a given year you can appear for JEST in Physics or in Theoretical Computer Science, but not for both.
What does the JEST application cost?
Rs. 600 for SC/ST and PwD applicants and Rs. 1200 for all other applicants, paid online by Debit card, Credit card, Net-banking or UPI. The fee is non-refundable.
Is there a JEST 2027 date yet?
Not on the official site as of 8 August 2026. The JEST website is still the JEST 2026 site and carries no JEST 2027 notification, exam date or organizing institute. Check jest.org.in rather than any third-party page for the announcement.
Final eligibility and dates are always subject to the latest official notification. Content marked “Pending verification” is not presented as verified advice.
