FAQsPending verification
Who conducts Maharashtra Police Constable recruitment?
The Maharashtra State Police itself, unit by unit. Rule 4(3) of the Maharashtra Police Constables (Recruitment) Rules, 2011 as substituted in 2022 says the Selection Board of every Police Unit constituted by the Director General of Police prepares the merit list. Applications are made on the state recruitment portal linked from mahapolice.gov.in.
Is Maharashtra Police Sub Inspector part of the same recruitment?
No. The state recruitment portal carries service-entry rules only for constable-grade posts — Police Constable, Prison Constable, Bandsman, SRPF Armed Police Constable and Police Constable Driver. The Maharashtra Police department's own Directorate of Training page shows Sub Inspector posts being filled by promotion and through a State Reserve Police Force Armed Police Sub Inspector Departmental Examination. The direct-recruitment route for Sub Inspector could not be established from an official source in this research, because the Maharashtra Public Service Commission website serves only a JavaScript shell.
What is the selection process for Police Constable?
A physical test of 50 marks, then a written test of 100 marks, then a combined merit list. Only candidates who score at least 50 percent in the physical test are called for the written test, and they are called in a ratio of 1 to 10 against the vacancies advertised in their own category.
What is in the physical test?
Three events. For men: 1600 metres running for 20 marks, 100 metres running for 15 marks and shot put for 15 marks, a printed total of 50. For women: 800 metres running for 20 marks, 100 metres running for 15 marks and shot put for 15 marks, again a printed total of 50.
What is in the written test?
Four subjects — Arithmetic, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Intelligence Test, and Marathi Grammar. The questions are multiple choice, the paper is conducted in Marathi, and the duration is 90 minutes. You must score at least 40 percent; below that you are treated as ineligible.
How is the final merit list made?
The Selection Board of the Police Unit amalgamates the marks obtained in the physical test and the written test, and prepares the final merit list following the Home Department's Government Resolution No. Police-1819/CR-316/Pol-5A dated 10 December 2020 and any later orders.
Is there any height relaxation?
Yes, for Scheduled Tribe candidates. The Maharashtra Police Constables (Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2024 add a proviso that the required height shall be relaxed by 5 centimetres for a candidate belonging to a Scheduled Tribe, with the same relaxation added to the SRPF Armed Police Constable rules. The base height itself is set in rule 3 of the 2011 Rules, whose PDF on the portal is a scanned image with no readable text, so no base figure is quoted here.
I have crossed the age limit. Is there any relief?
For this drive, yes, as a one-time measure. The Maharashtra Police Constables (Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2025 add a proviso making candidates of all categories who crossed the upper age limit between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2025 eligible for the recruitment process held to fill the calendar year 2024 and 2025 vacancies. The same relief was extended to the SRPF Armed Police Constable rules.
When did the current drive's application window run?
The portal prints the application start as 29-10-2025 at 18.00 hours, the close as 07-12-2025 at 24.00 hours and the last date for paying the fee online as 10-12-2025 at 24.00 hours. The Maharashtra Police website carried a banner that the 2024-25 recruitment was being extended till December 07, 2025.
Can I edit my application after submitting?
No. The portal's own applicant notice states that once the application is submitted no change can be made to it, and asks candidates to read all instructions carefully before filling the form.
Where do I find my test schedule and result?
On the recruitment portal, which publishes unit-wise physical test schedules and reschedules, physical test admit cards, written test admit cards, ground test marks, written examination marks lists, provisional selection lists and waiting lists. Everything is published per unit, so check the notices for the unit you applied to.
