FAQsPending verification
Who conducts MP Police Constable and MP Police Sub-Inspector recruitment?
Both are conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (ESB), Bhopal, for Police Headquarters, Home (Police) Department. They are two separate tests with separate rule books: the Police Constable Recruitment Test and the Subedar / Sub-Inspector cadre Recruitment Test.
What qualification do I need?
For Constable (General Duty): Class 10 under the 10+2 system, or Higher Secondary, or an equivalent, from a recognised board — and for Scheduled Tribe candidates, Class 8 or an equivalent. For Subedar and both Sub-Inspector cadres: a Bachelor's degree from any recognised university or its equivalent. No relaxation is given in the educational qualification.
How is the Constable merit list decided?
By the written marks and the physical marks together. The first-stage paper is 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks in two hours, in Hindi, at Class 8 standard, with one mark for a correct answer and no deduction for a wrong or unattempted one. Seven times the vacancies are called for the Physical Efficiency Test, which is out of 100 marks over an 800 metre race, long jump and shot put. You must score at least 30 out of 100 in the Physical Efficiency Test, and those marks are added to the written marks for the final merit list.
Is there negative marking?
In the Constable written examination, no — one mark is given for a correct answer and nothing is deducted for a wrong or unattempted one. In the Subedar / Sub-Inspector Preliminary, no. In the Subedar / Sub-Inspector Main examination, yes — one-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer, and nothing is deducted for a question left out.
What are the physical standards?
For Subedar / Sub-Inspector: 167.5 cm or more for men and 152.4 cm or more for women, with a men's chest of at least 81 cm unexpanded and 86 cm expanded. For Constable in cadres other than the Special Armed Force: 168 cm for Unreserved, Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class men with a chest of 81 / 86 cm, 160 cm for Scheduled Tribe men with a chest of 76 / 81 cm, and 155 cm for women of both groups with no chest measurement. Constable posts in the Special Armed Force follow the Vishesh Sashastra Bal Rules, 1973: 168 cm for Unreserved and Other Backward Class men, 165 cm for Maratha, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe men and 157 cm for Gorkha, Garhwali and Kumaoni men, all with a chest of 79 / 84 cm. A 5 cm expansion is compulsory in every case and no relaxation is given at any stage.
What is the age limit?
For Constable the prescribed age is reckoned on 29.09.2025 — minimum 18 years, with a maximum of 33 years for unreserved and Economically Weaker Section men of Madhya Pradesh and for anyone domiciled outside the state, and 38 years for women of all categories, for men of reserved categories, for government or corporation employees and Nagar Sainiks, all of these being Madhya Pradesh domicile only. For Subedar and Sub-Inspector the same maximum-age table applies but is reckoned on 10.11.2025. A candidate who is not a Madhya Pradesh domicile can apply only against unreserved open vacancies and gets no age relaxation at all.
