Worth preparing alongside

Final Result Deadline For Final Year Students: 2026-08-14

Concluded

Next examination date has not yet been published in StudyBddy's verified official record. The date above is historical—not an upcoming deadline.

POWERGRID conducts no written examination for this post. GATE examination dates are published by the GATE organising institute and belong to the GATE record.

Because selection runs on GATE, the binding deadline is the GATE registration deadline of the relevant year, not POWERGRID's own window. For this cycle GATE regular registration closed on 28th September 2025 - one day after the POWERGRID advertisement was dated - while POWERGRID's own application window opened only months later.

How to apply
Open official application page
  1. 1Watch POWERGRID's Job Opportunities page around late September, when the Engineer Trainee advertisement for the following year's GATE has been issued in each recent cycle, to confirm which GATE paper your discipline maps to.
  2. 2Register for and appear in the corresponding paper of GATE for that year - EE, EC, CE or CS. Only that year's GATE score is valid; the ET-2026 advertisement states a GATE score of 2025 or prior is not valid.
  3. 3Keep your GATE Application No., GATE Registration Number, admit card and score card. The application and registration numbers are required to fill the POWERGRID form, and the admit card and score card must be produced at the GD/Interview, medical examination and joining.
  4. 4When POWERGRID opens its own window - advertised as February/March 2026 (tentative) for the ET-2026 cycle - register online in the CAREER section of www.powergrid.in with your GATE details.
  5. 5Log in to the candidate login section and pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500 online. SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen / Departmental candidates are exempted. The application process is treated as complete only on payment.
  6. 6Check your status through your login on the POWERGRID Online Application System; shortlisted candidates download the interview call letter and other documents from the same login.
  7. 7If shortlisted, bring the documents listed in the interview call letter, including the caste, OBC (NCL), EWS or disability certificates in the Government of India formats where claimed.
FAQs
Does POWERGRID conduct its own written test for Engineer Trainee?

No. The advertisement Advt. No. CC/04/2025 states the selection process consists of marks obtained out of 100 in the corresponding paper of GATE 2026, plus Group Discussion and Personal Interview. POWERGRID itself runs only the GD and the interview.

The catalogue calls this Executive Trainee. Is that the same post?

POWERGRID's own title for the engineering intake through GATE is Engineer Trainee. Its advertisement is headed 'Recruitment of fresh Engineering Graduates for Executive positions as ENGINEER TRAINEE-2026'. POWERGRID has used 'Executive Trainee' for non-engineering streams such as Law, which ran through CLAT rather than GATE.

Can I use an older GATE score?

No. The ET-2026 advertisement states that only the GATE 2026 score, as normalized marks out of 100, is valid, and that a GATE score of 2025 or prior is not valid.

How much does GATE count in the final selection?

85%. The advertisement's weightage table gives GATE 2026 marks 85%, Group Discussion 3% and Personal Interview 12%, with a printed total of 100%.

Do I have to clear the Group Discussion?

No. The advertisement states the Group Discussion will not have any qualifying marks, though it carries 3% weightage. You must qualify in the Personal Interview separately - 40% for Unreserved and EWS, 30% for OBC (NCL), SC, ST and PwBD against posts reserved for the corresponding category.

What is the age limit?

The upper age limit for the ET-2026 cycle was 28 years as on 31.12.2025, with relaxation of 3 years for OBC (NCL), 5 years for SC/ST, and 10, 13 or 15 years for PwBD candidates depending on category, against posts reserved for the respective category.

I am in my final year. Can I apply?

For the ET-2026 cycle, yes if you expected your final results by 14.08.2026 and had at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in aggregate up to the pre-final examination. Selection remained subject to securing 60% in the essential qualification.

How many vacancies are there?

The advertisement does not say. It states that the number of vacancies and reservation would be indicated in a notification published before online registration begins, and Notice 01/2026 dated 06-04-2026 repeated that the detailed notification with the category-wise breakup would follow. StudyBddy found no such vacancy notification on POWERGRID's own site and does not guess a number.

Is there an application fee?

Yes, Rs. 500 non-refundable, paid online through the candidate login. SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen and Departmental candidates are exempted. The GATE examination fee is paid separately to the GATE organising institute.

Final eligibility and dates are always subject to the latest official notification. Content marked “Pending verification” is not presented as verified advice.
