Is there a Punjab JET written entrance exam I have to sit for a polytechnic diploma seat?
No. The PSBTE&IT Prospectus for session 2026-27 states that admissions will be made on the basis of inter-se merit of the qualifying examination and eligibility criteria as per notifications of the Government of Punjab, and that admission to the various Diploma level courses shall be done through web-based online counselling. No entrance paper, pattern or syllabus is published anywhere in it.
Who conducts the admission?
The Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training (PSBTE&IT), Chandigarh, an autonomous statutory authority created under the Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training 1992 Act. The Prospectus states that NIC, New Delhi has been entrusted with the task of conducting the online counselling, and the counselling portal's footer states the content is owned and maintained by PSBTE.
What is the minimum qualification for a three-year engineering diploma?
A pass in the 10th standard / SSC examination as prescribed by AICTE in the Approval Process Handbook 2024-25 to 2026-27, and as per CoA guidelines for the Diploma in Architectural Assistantship.
Do I have to travel for counselling?
No. The Prospectus states that web-based online counselling shall be followed for the academic year 2026-27 and therefore physical presence of candidates for the counselling will not be necessary. You do report in person at the allotted institute for document checking, but the Prospectus states that no candidate shall visit the Nodal Centre for document verification.
Can I improve my allotted seat in a later round?
Yes. The Prospectus states that candidates who would like to upgrade their seat allotted in the first round of counselling are permitted to participate in a subsequent round, and that if a seat is allotted in a subsequent round, the previous allotment stands automatically cancelled with no claim on it.
There is a site at jet.pbteched.net - is that the entrance exam portal?
No. That page describes itself as a 'Registered Students-Login' and instructs students that their Registration No. is their login ID, with a first-time password derived from the father's name on the registration card and the registration number. It is for students who already hold a PSBTE registration, not an admission test portal.
