Two things students routinely get wrong about REET. FIRST: REET is an ELIGIBILITY examination, not a recruitment. Its own official name is the 'Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers'. Qualifying it produces an eligibility certificate — it does not create a right to appointment, a posting, or a salary. The actual teacher posts in Rajasthan are filled through a SEPARATE recruitment process with its own notification, its own vacancies, its own age limits and its own merit list. SECOND: eligibility for REET is governed by NCTE's minimum-qualification notification plus whatever the Board prints in the current year's Vigyapti, and the Level 1 and Level 2 requirements are different.   1. 1Wait for the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan, Ajmer to publish the REET Vigyapti on rajeduboard.rajasthan.gov.in and the dedicated REET portal for that cycle.
  2. 2Read the Vigyapti and confirm the level-wise educational qualification for the level you want — Level 1 for classes 1-5 and Level 2 for classes 6-8 have different requirements, and you may apply for one level or both.
  3. 3Choose your Language-I and Language-II from the options offered (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, Gujarati in REET-2024) and, for Level 2, choose Mathematics & Science or Social Studies. These choices are locked into your application and determine which questions you must attempt.
  4. 4Fill the online application form on the Board's REET portal within the notified window — for REET-2024 the window was 16 December 2024 to 15 January 2025.
  5. 5Pay the examination fee through the prescribed challan/online mode — REET-2024 charged ₹550 for one level and ₹750 for both levels.
  6. 6Download the admit card from the REET portal when the Board announces it, and carry it to the centre.
  7. 7Appear for the 150-question, 150-mark, 2.5-hour paper for each level applied for. There is no negative marking.
  8. 8After the result, download the REET eligibility certificate from the Board's portal — then apply SEPARATELY to the actual Rajasthan teacher recruitment when it is notified.
FAQs
Does passing REET get me a teaching job?

No. REET's own official name is the 'Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers' — it is an ELIGIBILITY test. Qualifying it gives you an eligibility certificate that lets you be considered for a teaching post; it does not give you a post, a posting or a salary. Rajasthan fills actual teacher vacancies through a separate recruitment with its own notification, vacancies, application and merit list. Clearing REET is a prerequisite for applying, not an appointment.

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

Level 1 (Paper I) is for teaching classes 1 to 5 (primary). Level 2 (Paper II) is for teaching classes 6 to 8 (upper primary). They have different educational qualification requirements and different papers, and you may apply for one or both. This mirrors the national TET framework in which Paper I covers classes I-V and Paper II covers classes VI-VIII.

What is the REET exam pattern?

Both levels have 150 multiple-choice questions worth 150 marks in 2 hours 30 minutes, with NO negative marking. Level 1: Child Development and Pedagogy 30, Language-I 30, Language-II 30, Mathematics 30, Environmental Studies 30. Level 2: Child Development and Pedagogy 30, Language-I 30, Language-II 30, and 60 questions in either Mathematics & Science or Social Studies.

How long is the REET certificate valid?

NCTE amended its TET Guidelines on 9 June 2021 so that the validity period of a TET qualifying certificate for appointment would remain valid for life, unless otherwise notified by the appropriate Government — replacing the earlier seven-year validity. The public notice issued for CTET records this as: the validity period of the TET qualifying certificate for appointment, unless otherwise notified by the appropriate Government, would remain valid for life. Confirm the position stated in the Board's current REET Vigyapti, since the amendment preserves the appropriate Government's power to notify otherwise.

Do I need a B.Ed. or a D.El.Ed. to appear for REET?

Yes — a teacher-training qualification is required, and which one depends on the level. Under NCTE's minimum-qualification notification, classes I-V generally require Senior Secondary plus a 2-year D.El.Ed. (or a 4-year B.El.Ed., or an accepted alternative), while classes VI-VIII generally require graduation plus a B.Ed. or a 2-year D.El.Ed. (or a 4-year B.El.Ed.).
