We cannot line TIFR GS up against other exams yet
This does not mean TIFR GS shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

How to applyPending verification
- 1Check the GS-2026 Eligibility Table to identify which programme you may apply to and which subject test feeds it.
- 2Apply online through the TIFR Graduate Studies site while the application portal for the cycle is open; the portal opens approximately September to October each year.
- 3At registration, tick the check-box if you want your score in that subject test to be considered for admission to additional eligible programmes.
- 4To sit tests in more than one subject, submit a separate application and pay the application fee for each test, checking that the session timings do not clash.
- 5Pay the application fee online. It is Rs 1000 for male applicants and Rs 500 for female, transgender and other-gender applicants, and is non-refundable.
- 6If seeking a fee waiver on grounds of financial distress, upload one supporting document during the online application and submit the request before the fee-waiver deadline, which falls earlier than the registration deadline.
- 7Overseas applicants unable to travel to India should submit proof of overseas residency with the application to sit in online proctored mode; once chosen, this option cannot be changed.
- 8Download the hall ticket when TIFR opens downloads, and sit the online test at the allotted centre.
- 9Watch the website of the Department, School or Centre you applied to for the next-stage shortlist, which may be an interview and/or an in-person written test, and then the final selection list.
FAQsPending verification
Is the GS-2026 cycle still open?
No. GS-2026 is complete. Registration closed at 11 pm on 26 October 2025, the test was held on Sunday 14 December 2025, and TIFR has since published the final answer keys, the interview shortlists and the final selection lists. The admitted cohort's programmes start on 1 August 2026.
Has GS-2027 been announced?
Not as of 9 August 2026. No GS-2027 advertisement or portal appears on the TIFR Graduate Studies site; the admissions menu still reads 'Admissions for GS-2026'. TIFR's general-information page says only that the admissions cycle for a programme starting in a given year begins in September or October of the previous year, that the portal opens approximately September to October, and that the written test is conducted typically on the second Sunday of December. That is a description of the usual rhythm, not a published GS-2027 date.
Is there one GS question paper?
No. GS is a set of subject tests — Biology (JGEEBILS), Chemistry, Computer Science & LIDS, Mathematics, Mathematics (PhD at CAM), Physics, Science Education and MSc Wildlife Biology & Conservation. Each Subject Board publishes its own syllabus and exam instructions, and the sectioning, question counts and marking differ between subjects. Read the instruction document for the subject you are taking.
Can I get into TIFR without sitting the GS test?
For some programmes, yes. TIFR states that scores from other exams such as GATE or JEST, or JRF qualifications from CSIR, DBT, ICMR or UGC, may also be considered by individual programmes. Which alternative applies, and to which centre, is set out programme by programme in the GS-2026 Eligibility Table. If you also sit the GS test, the better performance is considered.
What does TIFR pay its research students?
The GS-2026 advertisement states a monthly fellowship of Rs 37,000 for PhD students, enhanced to Rs 42,000 after registration for the PhD. I-PhD students receive Rs 25,000 a month in the first year, enhanced to Rs 37,000 from the second year on satisfactory performance and to Rs 42,000 after registration for a PhD. Hostel accommodation or HRA is provided as applicable.
Can I apply if I have not finished my degree?
Yes. TIFR's eligibility page states that candidates in the final year of their qualifying degree can also apply. The Eligibility Table frames eligibility as the degree you must have, or are currently pursuing and will complete by July of the year the programme starts.
Are past papers available?
Yes, and from TIFR itself. It publishes subject-wise question papers for past GS cycles under 'Question Papers of past exams', and states that the final answer keys for the GS-2026 tests are available under that same menu.
Final eligibility and dates are always subject to the latest official notification. Content marked “Pending verification” is not presented as verified advice.
