    Suitability for employment in the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service is tested with reference to merit, giving due regard to ability, character, personality and physique. After the result of the written examination is prepared, the Commission calls for interview such number of candidates as, in its opinion, have secured the minimum marks fixed by the Commission. The Commission must invite a sitting Judge of the High Court, nominated by the Chief Justice, to participate in the interview, and his opinion on suitability shall not be disregarded except for strong and cogent reasons recorded in writing. The Commission reserves the right to refuse to call for interview any candidate who has not obtained such marks in the Law Papers as to justify such refusal.

  2. 2Complete the Commission's One Time Registration (OTR); UPPSC states that the applicant's OTR number is the only registration number for submitting an application form against any post published by the Commission.
  3. 3When the advertisement is live, open it from the notifications page, read the User Instructions, and apply within the notified application-filling window.
  4. 4Deposit the prescribed fee within the fee-deposition window shown against the advertisement, then submit the application.

FAQs
Who conducts the UP Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) examination?

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. Rule 7 of the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service Rules, 2001 provides for direct recruitment to the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) on the basis of a competitive examination conducted by the Commission, and UPPSC lists the examination on its own previous-year question paper page. The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad is consulted on the rules and on vacancies, and a sitting Judge nominated by the Chief Justice sits on the interview board.

What is the age limit?

22 to 35 years on the first day of July next following the year in which the Commission's notification inviting applications is published, with five years' relaxation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other categories notified by the Government. A candidate is permitted a maximum of four chances.

What qualification do I need?

A bachelor of laws degree of a University established by law in Uttar Pradesh or another recognised Indian University, or enrolment as an advocate under the Advocates Act, 1961 (or the equivalent English, Northern Irish or Scottish qualifications named in Rule 11), plus a thorough knowledge of Hindi in Devnagri script.

What does the written examination cover?

Appendix II of the rules prescribes six papers - General Knowledge (200 marks), English Language (100), Hindi Language (100), Law I Substantive Law (200), Law II Procedure and Evidence (200) and Law III Penal, Revenue and Local Laws (200) - followed by an interview of 100 marks. Candidates may answer the General Knowledge and Law papers in Hindi or English.

Is an advertisement open right now?

No. As of 3 August 2026 UPPSC's own notifications page carried no advertisement for the judicial service; the live examination advertisements were the Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services Examination (A-1/E-1/2026) and two Miscellaneous Examination advertisements (A-2/E-1/2026 and A-3/E-1/2026).
