Worth preparing alongside

We cannot line WBTET up against other exams yet

This does not mean WBTET shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

FAQs
Who conducts WB TET and for which classes?

The West Bengal Board of Primary Education, an autonomous body established on 1 January 1975, conducts it for the primary stage, classes I to V, in exercise of its statutory powers and in adherence to NCTE guidelines.

How is the paper structured?

One multiple-choice paper of 150 questions for 150 marks in 150 minutes (2:30 hours), in five parts of 30 questions each: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II (English), Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Each question carries one mark and there is no negative marking. The paper is bilingual in Bengali and English except the Language I and II papers.

What is the qualifying mark?

60% or above out of the full marks of 150. A 5% relaxation, that is 55% or above, applies to SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PH/DA, EC, Ex-Servicemen and DH (Death-in-harness) candidates.

How long is the TET certificate valid?

For lifetime, for all categories. There is no restriction on the number of attempts, and a candidate who has already qualified may reappear to improve their score.

Does passing WB TET get me a teaching job?

No. The Board states that qualifying in TET will not confer any enforceable legal right on any applicant for being recommended or appointed as an Assistant Teacher. A TET pass is merely an eligibility for being considered in the recruitment process against notified vacancies.

When was the last WB TET held?

The Board's last general primary TET was TET-2023, held on 10 December 2023 from 12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m. Separately, the Board's Selection Committee conducted a TET for Special Education Teacher posts in primary schools on 22 February 2026, with the result published on 9 March 2026. No new general primary TET has been notified at the time of research.

Which first language should I choose?

Any one of Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Santhali, Oriya and Telugu. The Board says the choice is to be made on the basis of the medium of instruction in the school. English is the second language for everyone.
