Worth preparing alongside

We cannot line KVS TGT/PGT/PRT up against other exams yet

This does not mean KVS TGT/PGT/PRT shares nothing with the exams you are preparing for — only that we have not loaded a chapter-by-chapter syllabus we can compare against, so we will not guess. We compare 0 exams whose official syllabus we have traced to the conducting body, and this one is not among them yet.

Who conducts the KVS TGT/PGT/PRT examination?

CBSE conducts it on behalf of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. One notification and one examination cover teaching and non-teaching posts in both organisations, and successful candidates give their preference between KVS and NVS after the merit list is prepared.

How is the selection made?

For PGT, TGT and PRT there is a two-tier examination followed by an interview. Tier-1 is a qualifying screening test that shortlists 1:10 against vacancies; Tier-2 is a post-specific subject paper; candidates are called for interview at 1:3. The final merit list is 85% Tier-2 marks and 15% interview marks, with the interview carrying 100 marks.

What does Tier-1 contain?

100 questions for 300 marks in 2 hours: General Reasoning 20, Numeric Ability 20, Basic Computer Literacy 20, General Knowledge 20, Language Competency in English 10 and Language Competency in one other Modern Indian Language 10. Each question carries 3 marks and 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer.

What does Tier-2 contain?

A subject knowledge paper of 2 hours 30 minutes: 60 objective questions for 60 marks and 10 descriptive questions for 40 marks, 100 marks in all. In the objective part 0.25 marks is deducted for each wrong answer.

What are the age limits and the CTET requirement?

Upper age limit is 40 years for PGT, 35 years for TGT and 30 years for PRT, reckoned as on the closing date named in the notification. TGT candidates must have qualified CTET Paper-II and PRT candidates CTET Paper-I, with the certificate issued on or before the closing date for the online application. The PGT qualification clauses in this notification do not require CTET.

What do these posts pay?

PGT is Level-8 (Rs. 47600-151100), TGT is Level-7 (Rs. 44900-142400) and PRT is Level-6 (Rs. 35400-112400) in the Pay Matrix. Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India and requests for change of station are not entertained.
